Jay Of All Trades LLC
For the past 21 years, Jay of All Trades has been serving the Burnsville MN and South of MN River communities with exemplary home repair contractor services.
Jay of All Trades was established because the owner, Jay Tainter, saw that there were urgent needs not being met. Larger contractors seem to ignore the smaller, or what they deem insignificant to them, projects that are under a certain budget. We take pride in providing dedicated attention to absolutely every customer and have received continuous business and referrals because of our outstanding commitment to every project, whatever the size of the job.
Composite decking is low maintenance but not -no maintenance. You must do some cleaning an taking care of it. Leaf blower is first thing to keep debris from collecting and building up mildew an filling gaps between boards. Light washing to remove mildew from decks on North side or shaded areas. High pressure power washing can be risky, keep tip safe distance from surface to not cut into surface. In MN Winters a plastic shovel when removing snow, not a metal edged shovel.
Yes we even will fix a $5 guitar from a garage sale for my daughter. Payment in Chocalate chip cookies
Our goal is to keep doing quality work at affordable price to keep getting referrals. Ignore the guy in pic, the sentence is what's important. I'm thankful for all my clients in the last 20+ years that invited us into their homes to help make their lives better.
Ever get a sewer stink in the guest bath nobody uses? In the Midwest our cold dry winters can dry out or evaporate water in your trap in guest bath sink or shower then letting sewer gas into your home. Every month run water in guest bath or rarely used bathrooms to prevent it from drying out. Yes toilets too.
If your in need of granite or quartz check out the showroom full of slabs at Universal Stone in Shakopee right by the 169 and hwy13/101 interchange. They can help with kitchen counters, bath vanity counters and sinks. Let us know if we can help with the update.
Below zero temps can cause stress on homes. I just heard the first Pop of the season. It sounds like someone hits your house but it's boards shrinking. Common for deck boards to shrink an pop being they are wetter. The worst pop to hear is copper water line. They don't usually start showing until temps warm up then the water starts flowing. Double check your exterior garden hose faucets are shut off
Client had energy audit and was advised to replace original bath exhaust fans. We installed Panasonic fans with 4" insulated pipe thru the roof. Both fans have motion sensors and timers to control run time an lower humidity levels. One was set to about 35% humidity so it would run almost non stop to improve air quality in home. Within days the rooms smelled better an drier client said. Also both fans are extremely quiet and energy efficient.
Sick of bi-fold closet doors? How about barn door an track.
Merry Christmas an happy new year!! We are thankful for our past, present an future clients. We are here for you.
Water damage can wreck your holidays an budget. These cheap little water alarms can help you catch a water leak before it gets expensive. They simply sit in the floor or in cabinet an it has small sponge that absorbed water up to set off the alarm. I put under sinks, behind fridge-(water lines to fridge is #1 insurance claim) under dishwasher, wash machine, water heater. They make WiFi connected ones in case your at work or vacation to alert you. This one pictured I get at home Depot near the water heater aisle.
Egress window install in Burnsville home to gain a legal bedroom. To be a code approved egress window is a required width an height of opening, bottom of opening inside room be 44" or less from floor to be able to climb out, ladder outside to climb out of window well or if made with lumber be able to climb up like steps. My team can install in older homes or newer with tall basement ceilings an poured foundations. The window well here is metal but can be plastic, fiberglass, stone, blocks, wood, etc.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We just finished a kitchen last week in preparation for Turkey Day. New induction cooktop, hands free faucet, wall oven with micro above, butlers pantry with small fridge for extra drinks, under cabinet lighting on dimmers, maple floors refinished with water based poly to keep them natural looking an durable.
Sick of burned out light bulbs? Swap in LED lights with rings. They run cooler temperature, can have color choices from blue white to soft natural light, save energy, can be dimmed.
Last 5+ years we have been booked out 2-6 months at times an thankful for your patience. We are only booked out 2 months with some gaps right now so if your thinking of anything let's talk. Interior painting, kitchen remodel, replacing doors or wood work, update basement, water damage repair, wine cellar for your collection.
We are currently finishing a kitchen remodel, cabinets are installed, waiting on quartz counters in 3 weeks. Then we have a bunch of smaller 1 week projects with room to fill.
Planning a kitchen remodel? One question is fridge depth. Counter depth or standard? Even a counter depth the doors an handles will still stick out further than counters but about 4" less than a full depth. If you have smaller kitchen space the fridge can feel massive so maybe counter depth helps balance it. But if you have a big family you'll notice the missing storage and prefer full depth.
Floor heat is a luxury when installing tile but oh so cozy. I've never had a client regret purchasing the option of heated floors. In our northern climate an 6 month winters it's a valuable investment. In this pic we are installing heated cable under the the tile without extra height added. In fact it matches up to carpet height in this example. Monthly cost in use varies on size an temp settings but typically is less than $10/month even with large rooms
Time to get pressure washer ready for winter. Any water left in pump can freeze an expand an wreck the pump. Even if you used it once in spring it will has water in pump. You can search videos how. RV anti freeze can get fed into pump without starting engine. Even if you think your garage doesn't freeze anything on the floor gets the cold air first.
Composite decking is low maintenance but still needs some work done. Leaf blower the surface to keep leaves an tree debris from accumulating. Might need a wash every other year. Protect the surface from grill dripping or hot coals. Be very careful using any sort of bonfire or heat source to keep warm. If you keep a doormat in front of patio door it will discolor the decking. They are an investment that can last years if you take care of them.
Quick project between big jobs. Builder option for a French door was added in for new owner. Build short walk to fill opening for new French door painted to match.
Another dry stack stone electric fireplace flanked by cabinets with counters to be installed within few weeks. I love doing dry stack stone. Often a gas fireplace provides too much heat for an area. Client chose electric that's about 5' wide with back lit color options. Part of a basement project more pics to come
New master bath with new tub, bigger shower with bench, grab bars, custom glass, heated tile floor, new vanity, lights.
New shower involved new custom pan gained 4" of floor space in front, tile to ceiling, niche along with corner shelf footrest for shaving legs, new valve and custom glass door installed after pic on right.
Once in a while someone will comment about my business name so I remind them of the full statement. I like variety in my daily so it's hard to only do one trade without complete boredom.
Merry Christmas and thank you for another productive year
