Last week, patient advocates representing the Amplifying Black Voices Across Cancer ( ) digital initiative and the Count Me In (CMI) program visited the and got a guided tour that led to some impactful conversations around health, race, and equity.
participants are helping to elevate and shed light on disparities by sharing their lived experiences of what it means to be Black and affected by cancer. CMI is a patient-partnered cancer research program co-founded by the Broad Institute and its partners. It enables cancer patients anywhere in the United States and Canada to share their medical information with scientists to help accelerate the pace of cancer research.
During the guided tour of the various disease-based galleries, the patient advocates engaged in important conversations around equity in biomedicine, disparities in healthcare, stigma in mental health, and what inclusive public engagement should look like.
These conversations were meaningful, powerful, and at times, emotional. At the Discovery Center, one of our key goals is to stimulate thoughtful discussion around important topics at the intersection of science and society.
If you are interested in getting a free guided tour of the Broad Discovery Center, stop by at 11:00 am Monday - Wednesday at 415 Main Street, Cambridge, OR book a group tour (for a larger group) at broad.io/grouptour
