After 18 amazing years in Harvard Square, we recently moved to Shelburne Falls, MA. The Harvard Square shop opened in month 2005 at 52 JFK street.

John Petrovato, owner of Raven Used Books, has been a bookseller for over 20 years. His first shop was the Montague Bookmill in Montague, MA, which he co-owned with David Lovelace from 1992 to 2000. Located in a nineteenth century grist mill, The Bookmill was a beautiful, expansive store that stocked over 50,000 books and provided a full service cafe. we are putting out a couple of hundred books a week from that big poetry and philosophy collection we recently bought. The Raven also purchased over 600 books from former employees of Harvard University press - all brand new and 50 - 70% off cover. lastly, we just purchased and starting to put out many hundreds of excellent Mathematics book.

We just purchased an amazing collection of over 10,000 books from a retired Harvard professor. over 2000 poetry books to die for plus lots of western and eastern philosophy. a couple of hundred will hit the shelves this weekend and then continuously for some time afterwards. Photos of a few that we put up today.

Water-powered Air conditioning! The Mill at Shelburne Falls and its tenants including raven used books use water power for our utilities. Temperatures in the shop are very cool and you are welcome to escape the heat and hang out in our sitting area.

Reminder that we are hosting Shelburne falls resident and award winning Poet Lauren Schmidt this Saturday, June 15th at 6 pm.
There is construction on Conway street but will be open to both pedestrians and vehicles on weekends by late afternoon.

Lots of new things going on here. We purchased a big collection from a former Harvard University press editor whose focus was on Philosophy, ancient history, Mathematics, classical music, economics and more. We also purchased a large Medieval collection recently.

For events, we have two readings coming up - one on Friday and the other, a week from Saturday. Also, on June 14th, the Gaslight Tinkers (world music) will play an outside concert in the courtyard to benefit the Permaculture place at 7 pm.

Shelburne Falls resident Lauren Schmidt is the author of three previous collections of poetry: Two Black Eyes and a Patch of Hair Missing; The Voodoo Doll Parade, selected for the Main Street Rag Author’s Choice Chapbook Series; and Psalms of The Dining Room, a sequence of poems about her volunteer experience at a soup kitchen in Eugene, Oregon. Her work has appeared in journals such as North American Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Rattle, The Florida Review, The MacGuffin, The Progressive, and others. Her awards include the So to Speak Poetry Prize, the Neil Postman Prize for Metaphor, The Janet B. McCabe Prize for Poetry, and the Bellevue Literary Review’s Vilcek Prize for Poetry. Her fourth collection, Filthy Labors, a finalist for the Brittingham/Pollak Poetry Prize, chronicles her volunteer teaching experience at a transitional housing program for homeless women in her native New Jersey.
