Paden, a zoology major from Waterloo, Illinois, passed away on Monday, Jan. 30. He was an outstanding orientation leader, participated in the Saluki Summer Bridge program in 2020 and returned as a mentor in 2021. Paden exhibited his Saluki spirit as a member of the Marching Salukis and as an enthusiastic member of the Dawg Pound.

Michael David "Mike" Hanes - View Obituary & Service Information Share Memories and Support the Family.
We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Michael (Mike) Hanes, Director of Bands Emeritus. Mike steadfastly supported SIU Bands and the Marching Salukis since his retirement in 2005. From leading the Alumni Band at Homecoming to attending Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band concerts throughout the years, he was unwavering in his devotion to the program that he built and directed. Mike will always be remembered for his kindness and genuine enthusiasm for music-making. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the thousands of students that will carry his memory. –Chris and George

Now that the dust has finally settled, I want to thank EVERYONE who donated to us during the Day of Giving campaign.
Collectively, $9,400.00 was raised. On behalf of the members of all the ensembles, Chris and I wholeheartedly say, THANK YOU!
As always, thank you to Brian Munoz for his wonderful student photos, and help with the media effort. Also, my thanks to Matt McCoy at the Foundation.
I realize I posted... a LOT... during the run-up to the Day of Giving. I hope everyone, especially alumni and friends, enjoyed learning about our diverse group of young ladies and gentlemen, their various majors, and their hometowns.
Finally, I was asked if it is too late to donate. It is not! It is too late to use the Day of Giving website; but if you would still like to donate (and it will be counted toward our total) please contact:
