On Monday, the Board of Supervisors voted to approve satellite voting centers despite Supervisor Kristin Gaspar walking out before the vote, saying “This emergency outlined in red is not an emergency.”
Supervisor Jim Desmond was the only board member who voted against it.
“Our coalition is relieved to see the Board of Supervisors moving in the right direction with their votes to add satellite voting centers in every district,” said Paola Martinez-Montes, Coalition Manager for The Invest in San Diego Families Coalition. “This will make it easier for San Diegans to register and cast their votes and is important to continue the fight to remove barriers for historically marginalized communities. We believe that it is the duty of elected officials to make sure that everyone has a fair chance to vote and to make voting as accessible as possible.”
