READ THE CAPTION 👇👇 There’s a lot of activity trackers on the market.. but use caution on how accurate they truly are. Sure, tracking our steps, helping us regulate our sleep, and showing us our heart rate are all helpful tools! However, when it comes to tracking how many calories we burn when we track a workout, it’s likely overestimating. This can backfire, especially when we are wanting to lose weight. We think we’re burning all these calories from our workouts.. but that’s not always the case. This is why it is not recommended to eat back all of your calories that our activity trackers told us we burned. Working with a Registered Dietitian to find how many calories you need to eat based on your goals can be a more accurate approach! Here’s some sources: Nelson MB, et al. Med Sci Sports Exerc. 2016., found that All PA monitors predicted EE within 8% of COSMED for sedentary activity but overestimated EE by 16%–40% during ambulatory activity, like walking, jogging, & climbing stairs.⁣ ⁣ Shcherbina et al 2017, found that most wrist-worn devices adequately measure HR in laboratory-based activities, but overestimate energy expenditure (calories burned) by 27.5% to 93%, suggesting caution in the use of EE measurements as part of health improvement programs. Basically, enjoy your watch and the heart rate, step count, and sleep data it gives you. But don’t get caught up in all the calories data- it’s not that useful. Master the basics before over analyzing non-useful data: -Sleep 7-9 hours nightly -Manage stress -Have a consistent meal pattern that fits your lifestyle -Add protein to each meal -Round out meals with nutritious fiber-filled carbs and heart-healthy fats -Exercise regularly- even if it’s a daily walk #reel #tips #nutrition #fitness #dietitian #alignedhealthpractice

Curious how much protein you need as a strength or powertraining athlete? The general guideline for healthy adults who engage in resistance training is to consume 1.6-2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. This optimizes muscle protein synthesis, which is the process by which the body utilizes dietary protein sources to structure new muscle. However, you individual protocol for maximizing muscle protein synthesis depends on…. 1. Age 2. Sex 3. Body composition 4. Training status 5. Exercise type/sport 6. And more..! Spreading your protein intake throughout the day can lead to the best results. (For example: An athletic man weighing 90kg should consume ~50g protein, 4 times a day). Foods that are high in quality protein: -Lean meats -Fish/seafood -Eggs -Dairy products -Legumes Talk with your Dietitian to find what protein needs are best for you and your lifestyle. #alignedhealthpractice #protein #dietitian #nutrition
