Hello Abq and NM folks!

A practitioner is traveling from out of state on April 9th who will be testing for CranioSacral Certification with me. The practitioner will need to have a person willing to be on the table for the practical portion of the exam at 11:00 am on April 9th.

This is a great opportunity for other practitioners who are in the certification process to participate in and witness the practical portion of the exam. For already certified practitioners, this can also be a nice way to support the community and pay the mentorship forward.

If you are interested and available, please send me a message and I can fill you in on any details.

Thanks in advance,
-Eric M

Hi CST practitioners,
We have a really nice group registered for our Virtual Study Group tomorrow on Completing the Written Exam, which is the first portion of the Upledger CST Certification Process. There is still time to register if you haven't yet and are finding yourself wanting some support in the written exam process. Here's the write-up of the VSG and the registration link:

January 20th at 10:30am PT Virtual Study Group on Completing the Written Exam

Achieving your CranioSacral certification is a meaningful goal for many dedicated and skilled therapists. Yet, many therapists get stuck in the essay exam writing process for years before completing the process (or dropping out).

This virtual study group is focused on building resources and support for practitioners who would like to complete the written essay exam (either techniques or diplomate).

Facilitated by Eric Moya, this virtual study group is designed for diverse learners who would like some help in building resources and support for completing the written exams (either techniques or diplomate). Eric will bring his many years of experience as a senior CST instructor and certified CST mentor to support the participants in this study group. In addition to CST teaching and mentor experience, Eric also has degrees in creative writing, English literature, and has experience in academic writing in clinical psychology. All of these skills are useful in helping participants find their own unique writing style and process in completing the exam.

The format of the group will be to support participants in identifying their own unique strengths and weaknesses, identify their own learning styles, and then offer a variety of strategies to choose from to build the individual recipe of support in order to succeed in completing the exam.

The virtual study group will be 2 hours long.

Hello Abq (and surrounding areas) CST folks,

I'm conducting a CST techniques certification exam on February 6 @ 1:00 pm. The practitioner who will be testing is traveling in from out of state and needs a person to lay down on the table for the practical portion of the certification exam process. I'm wondering if we have any local folks who would like to be on the table for that process?

Ideal candidate is someone who is also a CST practitioner and either looking forward to going through the certification process in the future or is already certified and would like to support a practitioner currently going through the process.

Please DM me if you are interested or have questions.

Warmly,
-Eric Moya Cst-d

Got to be in the student role again last weekend with an esteemed and deeply respect worthy colleague in the institute, Avadhan Larson. This class was an upper level class about working with the brain structure and function from both a manual therapy perspective and relational perspective. Attachment, trauma, brain injury, aging, and developmental delays were all part of the work at hand for this course. Although in many ways, these are not brand new topics to me, the integrative approach that Avadhan embodies was a treat to witness and be part of.

Those of you who know me a bit, know that one of my major interests is in systems theory and complex adaptive systems science (CAS). It is the foundation for the bodymindspirit work that I do and will ultimately be part of my research question for the psychology Ph.D I do. I honestly believe that an understanding of CAS will ultimately provide better models, research directions, and growth potential for an integrated medicine of the future, and one that isn’t being done yet. So, for that reason, one of my excitements in moving back to NM is to be closer to and get to know the work of the Santa Fe Institute better. SFI would be one of the leading think tanks and institutions advancing complexity science in the world at the moment. So, part of that is getting to go to their community lectures series which had its first lecture last night. The topic was Artificial Intelligence: Oppression or Innovation and features a panel of scholars posing technical and philosophical queries about this new explosion of AI that we are immersed in. The fact that we are beginning to partner with technologies that are already functioning in ways that we can’t understand can be both unsettling and awe-inducing. Navigating our human relationship to AI will be our pressing task at the moment. My more optimistic take is that pressing the boundaries of a complex system like AI that we don’t understand might ultimately come to be an important way that we come to know our human experience better, including solutions for our unfortunate biases which are already embedding themselves in AI outputs.

Last weekend, did a poster presentation at the annual American College of Forensic Psychology conference. My topic was A Systemic Literature Review of Complex Adaptive Systems and Political Radicalization. It was a fun conference overall hearing about the latest research on serial killers, ma*****na, and filicide among other fascinating topics. Although I don’t know that I’m likely to enter the field of forensic psychology personally, it was a great first experience doing a poster presentation at a major conference and it was a special treat to meet so many of my fellow grad students in person.

Current stack I’m working though. Most of these are preparation reading for the meditation teacher training I begin next month. So far, I especially recommend the Ruth King book.

I have a tendency to read multiple books at a time because I love discovering overlaps in ideas. It’s the overlaps and patterns I love more than any particular frame of reference. Whereas I might normally be reading 2-3 books at a time, this lockdown has ramped that up. This is a pile of books from which I am currently reading simultaneously. No wonder I read slow. Ha!

Update on my practice

Hello everyone,

I hope that every one of you is safe, healthy, and free from distress (physical and mental). As recommended, my clincial practice will continue to be closed the week of March 22-March 29, and will be reassessing the situation weekly for maximum client safetly as well as needed therapeutic support. If you find yourself wishing or needing for some support, I am happy to be available by teleconference at a reduced rate. Reach out if you have any questions.

In the meantime, here are a couple of things I recommend to help as you cope in your own unique ways.
Practice social distancing, but not emotional distancing. Please reach out and stay connected to people that help you feel safe. Phone conversations, video chats, messages can be helpful when needed.
Go outside. Breathe some fresh air. Nature is still amazing, even at a respectable distance from others.
Be friendly and treat others with compassion. There is a lot of dysphoria and distress in the world right now. You may find yourself needing to go to the grocery story or pharmacy for a necessity. In addition to all the recommended social distancing, please make eye contact and smile at others.
Limit news intake. Social media and news is inundated with difficult messaging. There is no need to check the news or technology more than 2-3 times in a single day.
Use tools for transpersonal connection. Prayer, meditation, yoga, staring at nature. Anything to help you contact the larger non-human universe is helpful.
Hope some of these are helpful. If there is any support I can offer in this time, please do let me know.

Warmly,
-Eric Moya, Cst-D, Ms/Mfct

Hello Esteemed Clients,

Just wanted to reach out and send a communication during these unprecedented times.

First off, I do believe that good therapy is helpful and needed in times of global and cultural distress, for the physical benefits as well as to offer some contact and relief for the isolation and dysphoria that can occur during such radical shifts happening around us. To that end, I will be continuing to see clients in both San Francisco and Carmel and would like to share with you some of the practices I use to ensure your safety while in my treatment space.

In my offices:
• First and foremost, I always employ thorough and good handwashing before and after every client session
• All my client laundry is washed in hot water with bleach and replaced after every session
• All surfaces, door handles, and contact areas are disinfected between every session
• Any pens or other items handled will get disinfected between sessions

If you begin to experience any cold or flu like symptoms, please don’t hesitate to let me know so that we can reschedule your appointment. In the meantime, please continue to get good rest, eat well, and take some mindfulness time to contact nature and the life within us.

Our collective health, healing, and well-being is important to me and I look forward to continuing to assisting you as we move forward together.

Sincerely,
-Eric Moya Cst-D, Ms/Mfct
