I called this account because I wanted people to know that any barrier they may face due to won't FEEL like a barrier forever. If you're newly diagnosed, if you are a parent who just received a diagnosis for your child, if you're experiencing it won't last long. Not long at all. I promise.

“Always take care
of yourself first
as much as you
possibly can!

Easier said than done, I know….”

Good evening everyone,
This is still so hard for me to get my head around, but I need to accept this!
Do you remember the safety announcements on airplanes in which they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first, BEFORE helping your child?
Well, there’s a good reason for this….We are useless to our loved ones if we aren’t taken care of and we don’t make it somehow.
So many of our loved ones are utterly dependent on us, and although this may change with time, we are caregiving + parenting indefinitely, and we are so very needed indefinitely too. 😊💙

In this presentation, we will delve into the essential role of integrating emergency preparedness into the design of treatment plans for our clients, with a specific focus on individuals with and . The presenters will introduce an assessment tool they have developed to empower analysts in their discussions and the formulation of safety protocols with clients and stakeholders. This tool comprises a thoughtfully crafted set of open-ended questions that cover critical areas, such as fire safety, water safety, wandering behavior, and emergency evacuations (e.g., floods, hurricanes). Throughout this presentation, we will also explore the ethical responsibilities of analysts and engage in a dialogue regarding effective methods for fulfilling these obligations through meaningful conversations and actionable responses based on the gathered insights.

was such a key part of my journey as an . Of course, nobody was around to teach me how to do that exactly when I started my journey years ago. So let's crowdsource! Have you reached a state of acceptance? Do you remember if it was one moment that created this feeling? If so, when was it? Please share in the comments. I'd be open to sharing too. Maybe we could even do a sometime to talk about acceptance and how it can lead to better advocacy for our children.

Imagine living in a world where ALL differences are recognized and understood. What would a world that truly understood look like? I have a vision. I see a future where long-term living for those with autism is not only considered, but planned for and made into a reality. Where communities can and do come together to make space for everyone. Now take that vision and imagine it for every different type of community. We need to think bigger. We can. We MUST.

In a perfect world, what would it look like for those with to be truly embraced? I want to hear your thoughts!

I love to remind parents, especially in the , your child will only be a child for so long. We are raising them to become adults who will lead long, independent lives. It’s a great thing to keep in mind through the day-to-day hustle and bustle.

As parents, we learn right alongside our children and both parties change for the better.

Think in terms of your life and your family before you take on the problems of the world. Start at home, but especially, start with yourself. You deserve love and compassion most of all and you can offer yourself more kindness than you realize.

Too many people assume that people with see the world “wrong”. It’s not true. Listen to them and learn.

This is the very reason I built this page and this community. It’s what I needed but didn’t have when my journey started so many years ago. For every parent you don’t click with, trust that there are others out there who will understand your journey and listen when you need an ear.

Be sure you are always advocating for what is best for your child. Sometimes it’s about stepping back and letting them learn on their own, other times it’s about speaking up to schools or caregivers to be sure their needs are met. Do you have any stories about a time you successfully advocated for your child?
