In continuing our collaborative effort within the community with the passing of the General Plan 2040 in April of last year, the City of Carson, CA is proceeding forward with the Comprehensive Zoning Code Update. This Comprehensive Zoning Code Update will take place in two phases, Residential as the first phase and Commercial/Mixed-Use/Industrial as the second. The city is currently conducting a survey as part of our continued outreach for the Comprehensive Zoning Code Update. This survey will specifically focus on Phase 2 for Commercial/Mixed-Use. We’d truly appreciate your input as it would greatly help inform the future within the city of Carson and continue to enrich our Carson Business community. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and can be filled out via the QR code from the attached flyer or at the following link: Survey. As provided in the link, the survey is available in several languages including English, Korean, Tagalog, Spanish, and Mandarin.

Your input matters. We appreciate the time taken to read this message and for filling out the survey. We also appreciate it if you could pass the survey on to others within the Carson community including your family/friends/coworkers.

Thank you for your time.

Tropical Storm Is On Its Way - Stay Safe

Hurricane Hilary has been upgraded to category 4 status. However, by the time it reaches Los Angeles County, the storm should be downgraded to a Tropical Storm. Hilary is currently off the coast of Mexico and is predicted to impact the region beginning Sunday through Monday. This hurricane is predicted to bring intermittent rain, heavy at times, strong wind gusts and sea swells potentially peaking on Sunday. The National Weather Service is forecasting that the City of Los Angeles will experience significant storm conditions triggered by Tropical Storm Hilary on Sunday, August 20 and Monday, August 21. All of L.A. is expected to receive at least a couple of inches of rain, with foothill and mountain areas receiving up to six inches.

This may cause localized flooding with rapidly rising creeks and streams and potential debris flows and mudslides. Unusually strong winds with gusts upwards of 40-60 miles per hour in mountain, valley, and foothills areas, and 20-40 mile per hour gusts across the LA basin could cause damage to unsecured outdoor furniture and roofs.

If you see flooding, fallen trees, or other significant damage that isn’t immediately life threatening, report it via 311, which will be operating with extended hours during the storm. Call 3-1-1 or visit https://lacity.gov/myla311

Report Power Outages:

Southern California Edison customers can report power outages call 800-611-1911.

Department of Water & Power customers can report power outages call 800-342-5397.

Sandbags and sand are also available at select fire stations. To find a location near you, click here.

• Never touch a downed power line! If you see a downed wire, stay away and call 911.
• Keep a flashlight and extra batteries nearby. Never use candles in a power outage or other emergency.
• Keep a fully charged cell phone on hand. If your power goes out or there are outages in your neighborhood, you may lose phone service and your cordless “land line” may also lose power. Extra portable cell phone batteries are very helpful in the event of an outage..
• Switch off all lights, except for one, so you will know when your power has been restored.
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to protect their contents.
