I just want to say thank you for all the engagement and excitement so far regarding my upcoming scrubs line. As you know, I have to change my name. I have removed my request for trademark and I have a new name. Once it is researched and filed by the attorney, I will begin the slow transition of changing my name on this account, Facebook and the website.
Instagram may be the best way to keep up with the change. I have not stopped working on the scrubs. The grading process has begun (making the patterns for all all of the sizes), then making a sample for all of the sizes.
I am looking forward to those of you who are local, to try them on.

A name to know for Black History Month. Charles Edwin Bentley, DDS, 1859-1929 was an African American dentist who graduated from Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1887. He felt if people had a general understanding of the human body and principles of hygiene, they could protect themselves from common ailments.
In 1900, he saw an opportunity to reach public school children who couldn't afford dental treatment. This was not accepted immediately.
In 1906, a commission to investigate the dental needs of children was created.
In 1910, he created a 32 page brochure called, "The Care of the Mouth". Throughout his career, he continued to promote the oral hygiene movement in addition to social and civic process.
Dr. Bentley died in 1929. He was known as the Father of Dental Hygiene.

We work hard and sometimes you have to take a short pause. I think that is what I just did. It gave me some clarity and direction.

Black History Month. Marilyn Hughes Gaston, MD 🏥...First African American woman to direct a Public Health Service Bureau.
She was inspired when her mother fainted at home. They had no health insurance. She knew she wanted to do something to chang this.
She faced poverty and prejudice As a young student what was determined to become a physician.
She enrolled in University of Cincinnati college medicine. She was one of 6 women and the only African American woman in her year. In 1964, as intern, Dr. Gaston became interested in children with sickle cell disease (SCD). She admitted a baby with a swollen hand, the baby was checked and found to have sickle cell disease. She was appalled as baby was never screened for this condition.
She began to study SCD and establish protocols for routine screening that later were adopted nationwide. She found that infants can be screened at birth and given penicillin immediately to prevent infections if screened positive.
In 1990, She became the director of the Bureau of Primary Health Care in the US Health Resources and Service Administration. She focused on improving healthcare services for poor and understirred families. Dr. Gaston has gone on to receive many awards throughout her career.

Today we recognize Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, this first African American physician in the United States. She graduated from the New England Female Medical College in 1864.
