The California native is a community activist, military veterans affairs advocate and the City of Inglewood’s first Female American Legion Commander of Sammy Davis Jr Post #784. She has held the titles of Ms. Armed Forces All-American and current reigning Ms. Black Global. Star has been featured on network shows, CBS local “Veteran Voices,” History Channels, “Mail Call” as a correspondent and local community programs such as the City of Inglewood’s 72nd Annual Memorial Day Observance, and Inglewood’s U. S. Vets Veterans Day Program.
While serving in the United States Marine Corps, her assignments included Camp Schwab-Okinawa, Japan, Operation Enduring Freedom-Kuwait, and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. She received the 2011 President Obama’s community service award and most recently received acknowledgements from Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) PFC. Adrienne L. Mitchell Post #2122 and the Sons of the American Legion Chappie James Post #578 for her acts of service community.
Star received her Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Florida A& M University and a Master of Science in Leadership (MSL) degree from Grand Canyon University. She is a dedicated member to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and also a member of the National Montford Point Marine Association, Inc. Star is an entrepreneur with her own consulting business, which she also uses as a platform for public speaking, event planning and community service.
