Hardscaping Projects
Landscape Awards The company was awarded a contract to design a master plan for Praxis Biologics after competing against four local Landscape Architectural firms. The design eventually leads to a major contracting project.
Renz Landscapes was awarded 1st Place in the Commercial Design/Build category for a $300,000 commercial project in partnership with Wachovia Real Estate Developments. The statewide contest was sponsored by the North Carolina Landscape Contractors Association.
Renz Landscapes is owned and operated by Curt Renz. Born and raised in Pittsburgh PA., Curt began his career working as a laborer at Hochstetler Nursery and Landscaping at hourly rate of $1.75 per hour while in high school. After moving to Raleigh, N.C to attend college, he earned a degree in Landscape Architecture from North Carolina State University in 1975. While in college, he worked summer jobs at a landscape design firm in Pittsburgh, at Sanborn Western camps in Colorado, and at Tara Horse Farms in Raleigh, N.C.
Renz Landscape turned mostly to residential projects as the commercial environment changed. Today, most projects are residential design/ build, meaning RL under contract designs the landscapes and secondly submits a proposal for construction and planting of the project.
We not only do landscape design, but we also specialize in terracing, drainage, hardscaping, planting, perennial gardens, outdoor kitchens, outdoor chimneys, hot tubs, lighting, irrigation, patios, walkways, fences, arbors, gates and more.
The nurseries we work with include still Taylor’s Nursery, and Panther Creek Nursery, Pender Nursery, Piedmont Carolina Nursery and Garden Supply. Irrigation and night lighting suppliers include Rainbird and Toro, hardscaping suppliers include Belgard, Techo-Bloc, The Stone Center, Scott Stone and Charles Luck Stone Center.
In 1982 at the first Raleigh Home and Garden show held at the old Raleigh Civic Center, luck was about to cross paths with Renz Landscapes. With the help of Frank Clemmenson, RL installs an attractive landscaped booth. After answering hundreds of questions about azaleas and gardenias, and an hour before closing on Sunday afternoon, Research Triangle developer Rob Teer with Teer Enterprises stops by the booth and Renz Landscapes would never be the same. Starting with work on the old Governor’s Inn in RTP, famous for an all you can eat, delicious, buffet for $5.00. Actress Natalie Wood, while filming Brainstorm even stopped by to comment on the Wolf Pack Red azaleas and the Carolina Blue skies.
Clients, over an 18 year span included, Instrument Society of America, The Teer Group, Don Harley Associates, Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, IBM, Wachovia Bank, GTE, and Praxis Biologics. In an award ceremony in 1989, Renz Landscapes was awarded first place, in a state wide competition for a project for Wachovia Real Estate Developments in the commercial Design/ Build category sponsored by the North Carolina Landscape Contractors Association
