I made a tough decision and decided not to move forward with renting a booth. The time commitment for Justin and I was just too much. I’ll still be selling painted furniture just not selling from a booth. I felt a little sad but truly am very happy with the decision.

Am I painting antiques? Should you paint antiques? Let’s talk about it.

I am not painting antiques. I am painting vintage furniture that is less than 100 years old.

An antique is classified as a piece that is 100 years old or older.

So, should you even paint antiques. Absolutely! It’s your prerogative and your furniture. If you want to paint it, go for it. You’re not going to ruin it. Paint can always be removed if you want to restore it.

It’s also important to realize that many antiques are far too damaged to restore too. Paint saves them.

The truth about painting furniture verse not painting furniture. I know many of you get quite upset when you see me or other furniture artists painting wood furniture. So
let’s talk some facts.

The truth is that when we don’t paint most furniture pieces they end up in the landfill. They don’t sell as is, especially for a price that makes a difference. They sell for super cheap.

The truth is most people don’t want old and dated looking furniture in their home anymore. They want something more modern and fresh that goes with their current decor.

That means that 12 million tons of furniture is thrown away each year in the United States. That’s a lot of furniture.

Also many people think we are painting antiques when in fact we aren’t. A piece is classified as an antique at 100 years or older. So most of the pieces that we are painting are simply vintage pieces. They have MDF, veneer and wood.

Another fact to consider is that many of these pieces are damaged far too much to simply restore. They need to be painted otherwise they end up in the landfill.

So before you start to tell someone not to paint a piece of furniture please consider these facts and if you really want to do something about it start restoring furniture back to its original state.

Painting furniture helps our planet and it helps small businesses like mine raise a family. Let’s keep painting!

This piece popped up in my memories today. I revealed my first painted MCM piece 3 years ago. It sold in one day. I painted it using Fusion Mineral Paint in Cathedral Taupe and Ash. Turned out beautifully.
