"WASHINGTON â For the first time, the U.S. Department of Laborâs Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched a National Emphasis Program to protect millions of workers from heat illness and injuries. Through the program, OSHA will conduct heat-related workplace inspections before workers suffer completely preventable injuries, illnesses or, even worse, fatalities."
- US Department of Labor
What does a "National Emphasis Program" mean for you?
National Emphasis Programs (NEPs) are temporary programs in which OSHA proactively throws detection methods and resources after particular hazards and the industries where the hazards are more likely to exist. Thereby trying to reduce the impact of the hazard on a larger scale.
Yes, this can mean an increased OSHA presence in the workplace, as well as swift follow up on complaints and incident reports.
Would you like to learn more about this and other topics? If you donât already have strong foundation of safety policies and training, give us a call. We can help easy your worries while you manage your business. After all, better SAFE⌠than sorry.

Even today we get many questions about what we do and who Pullen Services is.
Even more questions about if Pullen Services is the right fit for your company.
Unequivocally, Pullen Services is comprised of some of the most passionate and driven HSE professionals in the industry. Spending our free time to develop ways to make health and safety training the most effective and entertaining experience.
We all at one time or another have been trapped in a room with trainers who donât understand the content, or their audience. Trainers who teach but donât really listen. In many respects this is called âDeath by PowerPointâ.
We may not know everything, but we strive to. We believe that training is a two sided conversation. You learn from us and we learn from you.
We arenât a hive mind, we are a think tank. You can keep your business doing what it does best, while we help you increase efficiency in the background.
We are those trainers/consultants, in safety, health, security, and certainty not least - business operations. Give us a call, we are here to help your business on its path to success.
Whatever your companyâs HSE needs are - we will find a way to deliver it.
It's time to introduce the Pullen Services team!
Often, we at Pullen Services get two questions about safety training:
1. Why do we do annual safety training and not just one training when we are hired?
2. Why are annual safety trainings mostly the same topics?
The answer is simple. In all companies, large and small, when companies have employees â insurance, work sites and OSHA require certain trainings. Some trainings vary depending on what types of work the companies do.
Failure to provide safety and health training can affect employee morale, increase turnover and in many cases, it results in workplace incidents.
The core topics tend to stay the same, so employees can continuously increase their knowledge of safety and refresh the main components necessary to avoid incidents/accidents.
To illustrate our point, we have included the 2021 top ten OSHA violations.
OSHA Standard
1. Fall Protection â General Requirements (1926.501 - Construction)
5,271 Violations
2. Respiratory Protection (1910.134)
2,521 Violations
3. Ladders (1926.1053)
2,018 Violations
4. Scaffolding (1926.451)
1,943 Violations
5. Hazard Communication (1910.1200)
1,939 Violations
6. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147)
1,670 Violations
7. Fall Protection â Training Requirements (1926.503)
1,660 Violations
8. Personal Protective and Life Saving Equipment â Eye and Face Protection (1926.102)
1,451 Violations
9. Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178)
1,404 Violations
10. Machine Guarding (1910.212)
1,105 Violations
Many of these violations are core safety and health topics. A great portion of these incidents could are avoidable with good safety and health training, as well as the implementation of clear policies, use acceptable equipment and a culture aiming to make work safer for employees every day.
So, ask yourself this:
Do you want to invest in training and policies that cost a fraction of what a lost/damaged life and/or a fine from a violation would do to your company?
This is something we do, and something we care about. Whether in person or online, we can make it happen. Contact us today by phone (307)337-1385, or through our website pullenservicesllc.com.

âSafety by choice â Not by chanceâ
Did you know - February is American Heart Health month?
This is undoubtedly a very important topic not just at home, but also at work. Whether you are trying to eat healthy or stay fit, stress has a huge impact on overall heart health. Most would agree, work is a big contributor to daily stress.
A few tips:
1. Know when to take a break and step away for a minute.
2. Rome wasn't built in a day, learn to work at a pace you can live by.
3. Don't be afraid to ask for help when youâre unsure or falling behind.
Stay informed and stay safe.

We get a lot of inquires for MSHA. We may not have an instructor for it, but we have connections.
Today we wrapped up a full week of safety training with 8 hours of MSHA. Nick Ullrich came down to run the training and incorporated virtual reality (VR) to increase memory retention. Safety training can also be fun.

đJanuary is National Radon Action Month. Read and Scroll for more infoâĄď¸ or go to EPA.gov
â˘ď¸Facts: Radon is an invisible, odorless gas that can create a serious threat to everyoneâs health. Radon is radioactive and is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. Itâs produced when uranium breaks down. This is then released through rocks, soil, and water, and can build up in enclosed or confined spaces through cracks in foundations or other openings in the structure.
â˘ď¸Radon causes cancer. Breathing radon can increase your risk of developing lung cancer. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer and the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Lung cancer caused by radon exposure unfortunately has a very low survival rate. The EPA and Surgeon General estimate that radon causes 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year.
â˘ď¸There are no immediate symptoms of radon exposure. You wonât have blurred vision, nausea, or a headache that would indicate unsafe levels of radon in your home. It could take to develop symptoms.
â˘ď¸You must test for radon. Radon cannot be seen, smelled, heard or tasted. This means that you must test for radon to know for sure if itâs in your home. Test your home for radon if youâve never tested before. Itâs a simple and inexpensive way to keep your family healthy and safe. You can buy radon test kits at hardware stores or online.
â˘ď¸Radon is present indoors and outdoors. The radon gas that occurs outdoors is diluted, so it doesnât present a health risk. Radon that gets trapped in homes can build dangerous levels. The average indoor radon level in the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter of air (pCi/L). The EPA and Surgeon General both recommend fixing home with levels over 4 pCi/L. However, the EPA also recommends fixing homes with radon levels of 2 picocuries pCi/L. (See EPA radon map)
â˘ď¸Radon can build up in any building. Radon isnât just a problem in homes. It can be found in schools, office buildings, or any other type of building. New homes and old homes, with or without basements, can have unsafe levels of radon.
