Aged Oak: My Submission for the June Spin Swirl Soap Challenge

I’m thrilled to present Aged Oak, my entry for the June Spin Swirl Soap Challenge. Crafted using a slab mold and spun in a counterclockwise motion, this bar showcases mesmerizing wavy swirls, evoking aged oak. The bars were precisely cut using Custom Craft Tools ’ “Hercules” Soap Cutting Station, this month’s sponsor.

Aged Oak features a natural palette with activated charcoal for a rich black color, white kaolin clay for a creamy base, pink kaolin combined with white kaolin clay for a peachy tint, and Rhassoul clay for a warm brownish tone. The soap is scented with a refreshing blend of orange, lemon, and grapefruit essential oils, creating an invigorating aroma.

This was my entry for the . Nautilus swirls technique.

Supernova Bars: Drawing inspiration from the mesmerizing contours of the cosmos, each soap encapsulates the essence of a star on the brink of explosion.

For this soap, I used natural clays and powders to create the cosmic swirls, including Activated Charcoal, Ocean Blue Clay, Kaolin Clay, Indigo Powder, and Rose Pink Kaolin Clay.

This is only my second time entering one of my soaps into the challenge. It’s been so fun learning new techniques and seeing some incredible talent that inspires me to think more outside the box.

Very greatful for those who inspire the young minds

This is my entry for the Soap Challenge Club’s April 2024 Challenge, focusing on drop swirls. I chose to go with the mini drop swirls technique.

This marks my first-ever entry! It took me a couple of tries to get this technique down. In the initial attempt, my drop swirls ended up flat. On the second try, I mistakenly used the wrong essential oil, and the soap quickly moved to thick trace.

I always strive to craft soap using only natural colorants and achieve delightful scents through essential oils. However, it can be a bit of a gamble. For the third attempt, I reverted to a trusted recipe and selected an essential oil known to cooperate well.

Introducing “Moody Skies” - a bar reminiscent of those ominous summer days when storms approach, leaving behind the imprint of heavy raindrops on the pavement.

This bar was crafted using olive oil, beef tallow, extra virgin coconut oil, and sweet almond oil. The colors were achieved with Kaolin Ocean Blue Clay Powder (though it appears quite blue - I remain skeptical of its all-natural claim), Activated Charcoal, and Kaolin Clay. The aroma boasts a soft citrus scent derived from Grapefruit essential oil. I chose grapefruit for its predictable behavior and easier-to-control trace.

To achieve the mini drop swirls, I utilized basic Walmart sq**rt bottles and silicone straws. It was a fun process. I found great enjoyment in the process of learning a new technique.
