The Hyatt Auto Racing Team’s Neon is done. Missed the cut off for making the show and no waiver given.
So tuned for 2024 plans
Well that didn’t go as planned!
Had oil from a blown motor and caused a safety car for 2 laps then the rear wanted to be the front in the slippery oil so we spun.
Then a lap later I got dive bombed and hit cause minor body damage but cracked a wheel.
Waiting the officials decision if we race tomorrow 🙏
Got some new shoes for qualifying.
Q2 produced a drastic improvement but more needed.
Q3 at 8:20 tomorrow
Qual 2 in the books. After cleaning the fuel system to get legal and putting new plugs, wires and coil pack, we had a marked improvement.
Weather cool but damp. Good for horsepower but took a few laps to get the tires up to temp.
Times improved but still off were we should be.
Some fine tuning and back out at 820 tomorrow
Rookie RunOffs driver fail!!
Car did well times improved from yesterday.
Got called into impound.
All mechanical and safety items passed.
The fuel failed testing, crew chief/driver left about a gallon in the tank before filling it at VIR.
Afternoon project drain 5 to 6 gallon out of the car, run it dry then add a gallon at a time to clean the system.
Racing is fun!
Qualifying part 1 at 8:20
Enjoying a cup of coffee before starting the pre-session routine.
Practice session 1 in the books- warm and sunny. Car handled well, driver needs improvement.
Less brakes and more throttle is the theme for session 2 at about 1435.
Enjoying the final session on track before my racing starts
Mixed feelings this week, very excited to be headed to the SCCA RunOffs as a competitor and an emotional support dad for Taylor Ann Hyatt. It’s been a journey to get us both together separately at VIR her race is Sunday at 2pm while I hit the track Friday at 9:15
It is also very weird and anxiety filled that Vintage Racer Group will be at the Glen without a Hyatt. It’s in the capable hands of Butch O’Connor and others but feels like the first time you leave your child with a babysitter.
Safe travels to all our racing friends wherever you may be traveling this weekend.
Majors season over, finished 5 and 4 at Thompson. That should keep us in 3rd place in northeast conference.
The dodge neon preformed well, a few minor issues like a heater core going bad.
Thanks to angry sheep Motorsports and Chris Childs for some technical advice long distance.
On to the runoffs.
