Guillain-Barre Syndrome ("GBS"): A rare disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the nerves. These sensations can quickly spread, often paralyzing the entire body. Recovery from GBS is very slow and the acronym GBS is often said to stand for "Getting Better Slowly." For this reason, GBS survivors have adopted the turtle as their mascot. Foxy vibes x three. 🦊🦊🦊
Flamingos with ruffles to match a blanket posted earlier this month. One staying with me (for now) and one flying away. 🦩🦩
Fun fact: Adult flamingos are four to five feet tall, but only weigh between four and eight pounds.
My first amigurumis were zebras and that’s why they are my cover photo above. I’ve learned a lot since then and I think my animals have improved. But the trio of colorful zebras at the top of my page will always be special to me, and I even get to visit a couple of them from time to time. Here’s my latest — a conservative zebra in the traditional black and white. 🦓
Fun fact: Zebras fight off predators by kicking and biting.
Ruffles and pink for a baby girl. Don’t have one in mind but I thought the pattern was cute so I went for it! 👶🎀
Never too soon for Christmas crochet.
For baby boy coming soon! 🐘
Fun fact: There are three species of elephant (African Savanna (Bush), African Forest and Asian), and you can tell them apart by their ears.
Learned a new word for what I always called a “romper.” It’s a “jon jon,” silly! Southern term, apparently - and these jon jons are for baby boys south of where I live! 🩵 💙
Newborn “no-scratch” soft mittens.
Fun fact: Mittens are indeed a helpful item that can prevent scratching and regulate your little one's temperature during sleep.
Stacking giraffe to match a baby blanket posted earlier.
Fun fact: Giraffes move both legs on one side of their body and then both on the other side, which is known as a “pacing” gait, providing stability and balance for their long body.
Mosaic sampler made with a fraction of my leftover yarn.
Temperature snake (measuring well over six feet): Each ring indicates the high temperature on any given day in the city where and the year when a special boy I love was born. ❤️ 🐍
Who doesn’t love a Sock Monkey?
Fun fact: While it’s unknown when the first sock monkey was created (probably during the Victorian age), the modern version was first made by the Nelson Knitting Company in 1932 during the Great Depression using the Rockford Red Heel sock.
And three more makes everyone Super Bowl ready! 🏈
A couple of Kansas City Chiefs fans I love will be rocking Taylor Swift beanies on Super Bowl Sunday. 🏈
Made a pillow to go with the Bennett blanket because, as it turns out, the meaning of the name Bennett is “blessed.”
The Matrixx Hood per my daughter’s request.
Baby boy on the way. Can you guess his name?
Amigurumi and matching blanket for baby boy due early next year. 💙
2023 brought a bumper crop of Santas, all because my grandson repeatedly asked me to make one for his house - and one is good, but four is better!
Fun fact: A bumper crop is an unusually abundant harvest from a particular crop. The term is now most commonly used in a figurative way to refer to a large amount or influx of something (that's often likened to a harvest). 🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻
For my beautiful granddaughter, in her third year as a UNC Tar Heel.
Fun Fact: Workers who distilled turpentine from the sticky sap of pine trees and burned pine boughs to produce tar and pitch often went barefoot during hot summer months and undoubtedly collected tar on their heels. To call someone a “rosin heel” or “tar heel” was to imply that they worked in a lowly trade. During the Civil War, North Carolina soldiers flipped the meaning of the term, and turned an epithet into an accolade. They called themselves “tar heels” as an expression of state pride.
Buffalo plaid wine cozies with faux fur. 🍷
Fun fact: The designer of this iconic fabric owned a herd of buffalo, so he named the black and red checkered fabric after his beloved herd.
Gnomes seem to be trending so I jumped on the bandwagon and made one.
Fun fact: As they are said to be a lucky charm, it is considered bad luck to break a gnome or ill-treat them.
Loved this mosaic pattern so much I made another afghan from my “stash.”
First mosaic blanket. Had some leftover yarn, so I made a matching giraffe.
Fun fact: There are two types of mosaic crochet, interlocking and overlay, and I’m not 100% sure which this one is! 🤣
She started off a year ago like the first picture and then my granddaughter’s dog got ahold of her (middle). I was gonna try to pull out all the chunky hair (that I wasn’t very happy with to begin with) and replace with thinner yarn for the mane, but it turns out all she needed was a haircut (right). ✂️
Granny Pop Cardigan … cuz fall is coming. ☕️🎃🦃 (first time adding sleeves!)
Gnome silverware holders … cuz who doesn’t love gnomes?
At her request, another scrap bag for another granddaughter who also becomes a teenager soon. And like her cousin’s, this tote comes with contrasting pockets and magnets on the sides to keep it cinched in when not full. 👯♀️
