Charleston Crokinole Club

We aim to promote play of Crokinole in Charleston, SC and the surrounding area by organizing open and structured play events.

The doubles tournament wrapped up late last night. CCC made a good showing, finishing 1st and 4th.

Thanks so much to Brandyn and Bailey from Queen City Crokinole Club for hosting the event.

The story of the con for me is teaching a couple how to play crokinole so they can enter the doubles tournament, and then they make it to the quarterfinals.

The Circuit is official!

We've been talking about this since we first started seeing crokinole so well received at SCARAB and Tantrumcon gaming conventions. Now that we have 4 clubs in the Carolinas and more on the way, and have started seeing some of our own members travelling to tournaments around the area, it's time to coordinate the clubs. The season kicks off in a couple weeks at SFGE (see the next announcement).

Go to the Circuit Page and give it a Like to get all the news.

We're thrilled to officially announce the formation of the Southeast Crokinole Circuit!

The Southeast Crokinole Circuit is an affiliation of crokinole clubs in the southeastern region of the United States, which exists to facilitate the growth of crokinole in the Southeastern States by fostering a spirit of cooperation and competition between its member clubs and encouraging the formation of new clubs.

It aims to do so by coordinating tournaments of its member clubs into a competitive regional circuit, by conducting tournaments at gaming conventions within the Southeastern United States, and by publicizing each of its member clubs.

The founding clubs of the Southeast Crokinole Circuit are the Charleston, Queen City (Charlotte), Asheville, and Triangle (Wake Forest) Crokinole Clubs.

The first season of the circuit begins now, and the first tournaments will be held at the Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta on Saturday, July 20. The season will end at an as-yet undetermined date in the summer of 2025, with a tournament most likely to be held in Charlotte, NC.

The circuit tour will be comprised of up to two tournaments hosted by each member club per season, and a number of other tournaments approved by the Circuit Board (often held at gaming conventions in the region). Players at these tournament will earn Circuit Tour Points based on their performance. Each player's top 4 event scores will comprise their tour score. Player rankings will be posted here on this page.

We're excited to see the growth of crokinole, and look forward to watching our players compete to be the top players in the circuit.

Charleston made a good showing in Charlotte today. Ben and Preston took first place. Chris and John came in fourth. And Emily and Dustin played well and only lost in the bracket to Ben and Preston.

Thanks to Brandyn, Bailey and Divine Barrel Brewing for hosting us.

And lastly, the groundwork has been laid for the Carolina Crokinole Circuit. Stay tuned for more formal news as plans come together.

06/29/2024

Preliminary round in Charlotte is finished. Dustin and Emily will have the 16 seed in the finals, Chris and John are the 11th seed. Ben and Preston are the #1 seed after losing only one match, which was against Brandyn and Bailey.

On to the bracket!

Brace yourselves for a swarm of update posts as we catch up from a backlog.

Firstly, our event on Father's Day was small, as expected, but a ton of fun. We had 10 players despite the holiday, and ran a rotational doubles tournament.

After a round-robin, Ben and Chris were paired up to match off against Preston and Dustin in A-Group. Ben and Chris were victorious in a race-to-9: 10-2.

In B-Group, The Rev was top seed and got a bye with his partner John while Andy and Emily defeated Cori and Stacey in a close 8-6 match. John and The Rev then defeated Andy and Emily 8-4.

Stay tuned for our July meetup announcement.

It's been a hectic but fun weekend at Origins Game Fair. After qualifying as the top seed in our qualifying round Thursday, and losing only two points in the whole qualifier, Preston and Ben played in the finals bracket this evening. 32 teams made the finals, but a few didn't show up, so Preston and Ben had a first round bye. Most games after that were hard fought, but the CCC pair made it to the finals after knocking off Adam from Windy City and Ian from Boston in a tight match.

In the finals, they faced a father/daughter ship from Fort Wayne. The father, Ryan, has NCA tournament experience and had just finished in second place in the singles tourney earlier in the day, and Emma was shooting sharp all night. Preston and Ben lost and took second place.

Earlier in the day, Ben played in the singles tournament and was defeated in the quarterfinals by, guess who...Ryan.

Hoping for a rematch next year.

06/17/2024

CCC is headed to Origins this week! Ben will be working with BrownCastle Games to help run the crokinole gaming area for the second year in a row. Preston is going as an attendee. Ben and Preston will be teaming up to play in the doubles tournament and Ben will be playing in the singles tournament. Both tournaments have been sanctioned by the NCA as Tier 3 tournaments under the new scoring structure.

If you'll be at Origins, come by and say hi. Or better yet, sign up to play in the tournament! Here's the signup schedule: https://tabletop.events/conventions/origins-game-fair-2024/schedule #?query=crokinole

Warming up for a little doubles tournament action.

06/01/2024

Ben placed 30th in singles and has advanced to the next round. In this round, players 11-30 will play a short round robin from which 6 will advance.

Photos from Charleston Crokinole Club's post 06/01/2024

Ben and Mike took 16th place in doubles with 42 points in 8 games in the first round. 12 teams advanced to the second round, and the 12th place team had 44 points.

Charleston has arrived at the World Crokinole Championships for the first time! Ben and his doubles partner Mike from the Windy City Crokinole Club will play for the doubles trophy in the morning and then singles in the afternoon.

We'll have two pastors on hand at our next monthly meet up this Sunday, in case anyone has any need of their services. I'm pretty sure both of them require the couple to have attended pre-marital counseling, so you've only got a few days left to get that taken care of. ;-P

Here is our first playoff match from the US Open, vs Marc and Connor from the Brooklyn Crokinole Club. I've met Marc at all three US Opens I've attended, but we've never played against each other.

This is the match where I suddenly lost the ability to shoot. I figured out what was going wrong between rounds and was able to correct. Marc graciously zoomed in to confirm my suspicions...I was shooting with the wrong finger! So strange. I guess it was playoff pressure.
