If you see an ER nurse today, say thank you! Every year we celebrate ER nurses for an entire week; however, Wednesday of that week is observed for our nurses. Often ER nurses go unthanked for their dedication and commitment to care.

Upon arrival at the hospital, patients are often seen at their sickest. While most patients and families are in crisis mode, they often forget the ER team stabilized their condition before admission. Next, they are transported to various units to recover. Patients and family have the opportunity to bond with their care team on each unit making their experience different from one in the ER.

This week goes beyond the gratitude for our nurses in the ER. Daily operations would not be possible without every member of the care team. I want to thank everyone responsible for making an ER run smoothly. Some members include our providers, EMS partners, administration, technicians, secretaries, trauma teams, radiology, laboratory, environmental services, disease-specific teams, transport, and many more.

While we know patients and families are thankful for the care received in the emergency room, the staff is often unrecognized. Please take a minute to say thank you; I promise it will make an ER nurse smile.

Happy to all emergency nurses! This week, we celebrate your commitment to care. I am beyond grateful to know so many fantastic ER nurses nationwide. While I don’t provide direct patient care, the ER will always be home to me.
