Plenty of hands makes short work. Thanks to all the sailors who showed up. We totally de-rigged 13 sailboats so that CCS can get them ready for the Spring Season. They are very appreciative, and we are proud of our team for showing up. Those needing volunteer hours need to bring their form to this weekend's work party where they will hopefully put together at least 6 of the boats so we can start practicing next week. That is from 1 to 4 and will include hot chocolate and more opportunity for volunteer hours. YEsterday you earned 2 in less than an hour by keeping on it. Thanks to Coach Bercovici for being the adult supervisor. We also heard from CCS' program director, Kathleen Saunders, who gave some info on their hiring for their programs and better pay than in the past. Great opportunity there. I will not be there Saturday but hope that many of you can. We want to start practice asap to prepare for the rest of the season. Please note the pic of bailers. Never too many. Recycle! Send them down with your kids!

2 pics from this weekend from 2 of our coaches, Loring and Hertel. Thank you for letting me know and making sure boat was in one piece. And special thanks to Mason Baird and Caden and anyone that helped this morning putting it back on the trailer and putting it back in its spot. I love my James Island sailing family. Very minimal damage. Merry Christmas and happy New Year!!!

JICHS Sailing Team practice has been moved to Friday at 2:30 due to the early out at school and a little warmer. Big race this weekend.
Sending this batch of pics to show you that if you think you roll the boat enough, you don't! These are good roll tacks. Exaggerate the roll to get the most out of it!

Our team has had a tough month and really proud of all of them and the way they have handled adversity. But it is time for some good news! You deserve it. The boats that were stolen over a month ago have been found. Not in perfect shape but very salvageable. Not all the gear but enough to really make it easier on the kids that were without for all this time. I cannot be sure, but I have heard the culprit is in jail and hopefully that will result in some returns of other stolen goods. And thanks to the generosity of our parents, Jackson's bibs and top were not found but his brand-new ones from Zhik came in last night and he will have them for the Lake Lanier Regatta this weekend along with a new Zhik Coast Guard Approved Life Jacket! Things are starting to look up everyone. Just in time for Thanksgiving! And I am very thankful for the last few days!

Words canā€™t express the feeling of love witnessed at Jacksonā€™s fatherā€™s celebration of life. Thanks to all who participated in any way. A beautiful ceremony thanks to coach Loring.

Really proud of our sailors this weekend at North Points #1. We spent the entire time in the top 5 with some good racing. We ended in 3rd with A fleet in 3rd and B fleet in 2nd. Our JV spent some time near the top as well and ended up 6. Camping in enus was for 8 kids and 2 were in a tent. Overall a great trip and thx to Coach Hagar for helping out so much. We were also fortunate to have Jacksonā€™s dad there with his daughter helping us out as well. Made it easier for coach hamm! We had some warn out sailors on the drive home Sunday. But our boat and the team made it back safely although some pranksters did leave some car art for some of our senior sailors

Day one was light air. James Island šŸļø is in second, ate a big meal, and are awake after some real camping. Good times! JV also near the top! 25 or more teams here between the two fleets. Varsity scores here. https://scores.hssailing.org/f23/saisa-north-points/full-scores/

Day 1 of practice was a success in that we had all but 2 of our team there but the wind gods did not cooperate. But we still went out there and got 6 of our skippers on the water and 5 newbies to go out and do a little James Island High School Sailing. We did have a few puffs but heavy current made it tough to really practice. It was the first practice of the year so just needed to get out. We were off the water early but got in most of the sailors. We have a big team for sure but our skill level is no near where it needs to be so as stated before get yourself to practice every week, get other opportunities, make it to some of the last Tuesday nights of the year during September, especially our skippers.
Welcome back everyone and welcome to the newcomers. Hopefully the parents are all on this page to keep up with what is going on in addition to our e-mail chain and some of our vets and their parents like to do so as well. Hopefully we have wind next week and hopefully it is not the breeze that we had last week. Odd time of year for weather.

Tuesday Night Sailing Cancelled. Too windy. See you next week!

Sailors, remember how we told you many times that none of you actually roll the boat as much as you should or could. Here is great footage of the top college sailors in the world throwing their weight around on a boat. Poetry in motion! Skippers and Crews alike, just check it out!

Our practice this week was chalk talk since there was not enough wind to have a good practice. We tried to go over each race of the prior weekend. The kids need to work harder at remembering what happened in each and every race, both good and bad. You need to know what you did wrong to get better and likewise you need to know what you did right to duplicate that effort. The video below was done in Charleston many years ago but was narrated by our friend Greg Fisher, one of the best sailors of all time. And at least 2 of these 420 sailors have sailed with me sometime in the past. Crew and skippers, this short video is fantastic at showing sailing it flat, boat control, crew and skipper duties, etc. Please watch it and try to commit to remember some of it. We know we can do better and if you just get a little from this that is a good start. And speaking of good starts that is the other thing we still need to get better at. Good talk and hopefully some of you got something out of it. The video includes spinnaker work but primarily really just the same kind of sailing you are doing now.

Great weekend with AI Chat poem for the event.

On the dock, with sails unfurled,
The James Islands Sailing Team is the envy of the world.
With determination in their hearts,
They set out to make a name for themselves from the start.

Through the choppy waves and gusty breeze,
They sailed with ease and grace on the seas.
Their skills and teamwork were put to the test,
But they remained calm and focused, doing their best.

As the race drew to a close,
The team's efforts paid off, and their spirits rose.
Fifth place may not be first, but it's an achievement to behold,
And the James Islands Sailing Team's success story will be told.

For the thrill of the wind, the rush of the tide,
The team's love for sailing can never be denied.
Their passion and dedication shone bright,
As they raced towards the finish line with all their might.

Though the competition was fierce and the journey tough,
The James Islands Sailing Team never gave up.
Their hard work and perseverance have paid off so well,
And they've earned a spot in the sailing realm's hall of fame to dwell.

So let's raise our glasses to this fantastic crew,
Whose determination and skill brought them through.
We're proud of you, James Islands Sailing Team,
For achieving fifth place in the Regatta, a dream come true it seems.
