Old Meck Vans
At Old Meck Vans brothers Jon and Michael Toth convert Mercedes Sprinter Vans into recreational and excursion vehicles.
In 2018 the idea began to come together after a western vacation together. Old Meck refers to Mecklenburg County, NC their home.
Jon and Michael on a test run to Charleston over the weekend. A few very minor things to improve upon, but this van is amazing. The electrical system is top notch. We dropped to 80% charge over night running with a few things pulling (both fans, fridge, CPAP, 3 phones charging) and within less than an hour of sunlight back to 100%. The great thing with this setup too is that when rolling down the road it can top off with the alternator. Super happy with our craftsmanship in the interior as well. Really pleased with how this turned out! For $65K this low mileage (69k miles) van can be yours. PM for further details.

A few random pics of our latest build for . Look forward to following your Summer 2022 adventures!
A bunch of random pictures of our latest build which we finished...today. Tomorrow it's hitting the road for a month in Colorado.
We're tired and sore after several weekends of round the clock work. Happy with how this one turned out. Learned few new ways to approach things. The most satisfying part was sharing in the excitement of our customer/friends picking it up.
Time now to put the finishing touches on our van and decide what we are going to do with it. Sell, rent, hit the road? Who knows?

Look who Jon brought to the shop this weekend? A new friend who's getting a second chance on life. A shop dog in the making? Perhaps.
Another van in the Van Cave.
Been awhile since we have posted. Finally ceiling LED lights and a finished ceiling. Very happy with the results!
Check this out from ROVE Rentals!
Ceiling and LED light install day.
The kitchen, seat, and electric cooler slide out are in place. More to come soon. Jonathan Toth Michael Toth
Among many funny sayings around the Van Cave we have this one... "You know what I like to do in situations like this? Look at it. Will you just look at it?" Truly though we are so pleased with how this has turned out. Stove top is working and the water system will be functional very soon.
It's been a minute since our last post. Decided to take a recommendation and lighten things up on the kitchen cabinet. Lesson learned...just because I think some funky grain pattern is cool not everyone will like it. I do find the uniqueness of wood interesting, but need to appeal to others. Happy with the way this turned out. Now to cut the countertop for the sink and stove.
Decided tonight we’d go a different direction on the kitchen counter top. Original plan was a great piece of Walnut live edge. It’s super heavy though. Found this walnut laminate butcher block counter top at IKEA. This is going to work perfectly. The depth dimension is spot on too. Great idea Jon! (It occurred to me we can get 2-4 electric guitar bodies out of the original piece. One can never have too many interests or hobbies!)
Good night at the Van Cave! Jon and I hoisted up the solar panels and now have the frame we fabricated and the panels attached to the rack. Drawer sliders are installed too. Looking forward to the final install of the electrical system this weekend.
Making some things happen for a friend-of-a-friend who I would now call a friend of Old Meck Vans! Jon and I removed slider door panels on a tiny 2011 Ford Transit Connect and installed windows. Ruth is a super cool lady in her 70’s who is doing her first van conversion, tiny home version! We had a blast working on this today.
I think this will work! Was ONLY testing that it fits in the concealed furniture folks despite the expression on my face. LOL Jon shared with me he wants to test it out. No way man we need to sell this van!
Multiple shots of the kitchen cabinet drawers. The darker one is from our last post. Box joint using the Incra box joint jig on the router table. Wanted to fully fabricate one. For some reason I couldn’t to the life of me get it dialed back in to make joints for the prefab (lighter colored) drawers. Opted to use the Kreg pocket hole jig instead. Pleased with the results and finally done with building drawers. Can’t wait to get these mounted into the cabinet. Likely will not happen until after my Oregon trip for ROVE. - Michael
Michael posting here. Check out what I did over a few evenings. I built a box...a drawer actually! Happy with the end result and psyched to do the next one. Could have purchased prefabricated, but sometimes I just have to see if I could build it myself.
Thanks to our friend Alex next door at After Hours Racing we have a new attached muffler. I even wore the funky welders mask while I watched. Good stuff happening at Old Meck Vans!
Bernie hanging with Old Meck Vans.
We had a visitor this weekend at the Van Cave. Penny will officially hold the title of “Shop Dog”.
The beginnings of a kitchen cabinet. I’ve realized sometimes with all the planning and designing ahead of time that sometimes it’s ok to make a change in the middle of the build for the better. But of course I need another piece of wood that I don’t have. All the better I should call it a night.
The kitchen LED lights are installed! Time to build the kitchen cabinet. Nice work Jonathan Toth!!!

Let there be light: and there was light...and it was good.
Tested out our circuit which will light the kitchen area. This will be mounted under the hanging cabinet and pointed down on the galley kitchen which is the next build.
Always good hanging with Jonathan Toth.
Received by far the most important purchase to date for the Van Cave today. Let the early morning and late night builds...continue! (Was going to say “begin”, but “continue” is the proper term.) Time for some freshly roasted beans from my friend Scott at Freedom Coffee.
Jon and I have finally been back in the Van Cave these past few weeks albeit a few hours at a time here and there. After a few weeks of self proposed quarantining and few brain tickler COVID tests for each of us the all is good. Beginnings of a seat box tonight. Other pics in the series show our overhead shelf frames. Super happy how each of these are turning out. We’ve turned the corner to the home stretch.
Toughest part yet of this build has been covering the frame around this window. Used a tweed weave wall material that just would not bend, stretch or mold. After 3 tries I finally was happy. Cool thing is I didn’t waste too much material.
