“I am from Shelby, North Carolina and I am a Business Management major! As a freshman at UNC Charlotte I was a member of the Business Learning Community, and during that September, I applied for and was accepted into the Emerging Leaders Program which was a huge jump starter for my collegiate career. Since then, I have also joined Alpha Chi Omega and I serve on the executive board and I'm also currently serving as a PAL mentor for Emerging Leaders thanks to the skills and confidence I gained from the EL program. Behind every memorable experience I've had here in college, are memorable people. So many of these people are those who I have met through Emerging Leaders, I reflect upon these memories and I remember that they were the people that made it possible. Being voted onto my sorority's executive board was a highlight experience, and what made it even more special was having a PAL, who was also my sister, cheer me on! Without the confidence she helped instill into me, I would not hold the positions I do now. My best piece of advice is to get involved! Getting involved helped me to truly find my place, and helped me settle into this large campus. Getting involved gave me a voice and showed me that I can have an impact on this campus! Student involvement is a crucial step to expanding your horizons and experiences. It may be uncomfortable at first, but get out of your box and get involved! After graduation I hope to begin a career in Business Administration. I hope to be able to go back to school a few years into my career to obtain a Masters degree while I continue working in the field to continue building my network and furthering my skills!” Last chance to apply for Emerging Leaders is Tomorrow September 30th❕❕
“I am from Winston-Salem, NC and I'm a Communication Studies major with a Psychology Minor! I have been involved in the Emerging Leaders program at UNCC, currently serving as a PAL for the third year! One of my most memorable college experiences was last year's Emerging Leaders graduation. It was the first graduation in person I participated in as a PAL, and it was a really special thing seeing my mentees graduate from the program and go on to do great things around campus. Make sure you're making the most of your time here. Studying and grades are important, but don't forget to get out and have fun sometimes or get involved on campus to make lasting friendships and good memories of your time at UNCC! Coming into college my freshman year, I was suffering from major depression and anxiety. I would pretty much spend all my time outside of class in my room. One day, my UCOL class had a former EL come talk to our class about the program, and I thought "why not?" It was the first time in my college career at that point that I had stepped out of my comfort zone. Joining emerging leaders and learning from the program allowed me to strengthen leadership skills that I was unsure I even had at first, and also allowed me to gain more confidence in myself and how I carry myself throughout college. This start to my time at UNCC opened up a lot of options right away, options I would never have had if I hadn't taken a chance and joined Emerging Leaders. Once I had graduated from the program, I thought about how I felt in the beginning. I felt alone, I was shy, scared to do things I was not used to. That's when I decided to apply for PAL, because I thought if the program had such a profound impact on me, then there's a chance that some other incoming freshman have the same feelings I had in the beginning, and it's really great to see the PAL teams I am a part of and the program as a whole help individuals who had some of the same anxieties I do to make the most of their time
