Happy Nurses Week!

We are very thankful for our clinically excellent and exceptionally kind nurses.

The team at Soaring is the only place in Charlottesville offering outpatient, robotic-assisted total joint replacement surgery.

Earlier this year we marked the tremendous milestone of performing “more than 100 makos” - robotic assisted total knee replacements. And today we ate cake 🎂 !!!

Being treated by a female physician linked to lower risk of death Researchers say people treated by female doctors tend to have better health outcomes than people treated by male physicians. They say there are a number of potential reasons for the difference.

Soaring Surgery Center is proud to be the surgical home of Thunder Orthopedics and Dr. Megan Swanson. Dr. Swanson performed 99 total joint replacements at Soaring in Q3 and Q4 of 2023. More than half were on health care workers or their immediate family members.

Soaring has tried to create a peaceful aesthetic for families as they wait for their loved one to have surgery. Thank you to Glimpse (Frances Thunder) for allowing her stunning photos to be showcased in our waiting room.

We have received many questions about: “who’s dog is that in the photos?” His name is Logan and he is the beloved best friend of the photographer. And yes, the photos with him are local and the photographer is local.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are so thankful for our staff and hope they are having a wonderful weekend with their families and friends.

We honor our veterans. Thank you for your service to our country.

Last week, all Soaring employees spent three hours having a mini-retreat to review the first 100 surgeries and identify ways to continuously improve our patient care and our employee experience. We aim to be number one in both patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction. And we are thrilled to be the type of place that makes time to do this type of review.

We thank our patients and our staff for a fantastic, never-to-be-forgotten first 100 surgeries!!!!!

This week Soaring Surgery Center would like to recognize our team member, Mitra Javadi, for her work with Soaring to ensure that all patients have an exceptionally safe experience. Mitra has worked in Sterile Processing since 2016, and joined the Soaring team in September. We are thrilled to have Mitra as a part of our team, not only because of her demonstrated excellence in the field of sterile processing but as an outstanding and supportive team member.

Soaring Surgery Center is very thankful to have the expertise and experience of Brittany Lambert. She is the Lead Surgical Technologist (aka scrub tech) at our facility and has worked with Dr. Swanson for four years. Side by side in the OR, she often knows what instrument Dr. Swanson needs before it’s even vocalized. Brittany is an invaluable member of the surgical team and while most patients never see her, she is an essential part of why the surgeries often go so well.

Soaring Surgery Center is proud to announce that Dr. Megan Swanson is a certified mako-robotic surgeon and for the past month she has been performing robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery at Soaring Surgery Center.

Dr. Swanson says: “People ask me what I like about the robot: and I tell them that I like the opportunity to be even closer to perfect. With the robot, we can see the knee in 3D, plan the surgery with minute changes such as 1/2 a millimeter of change in bone cut and one degree of rotation difference, and then we can push the button "execute"... and while my hand holds the saw, the robot will prevent me from performing the cuts in a way I didn't plan.”

Dr. Swanson uses this analogy: “It's kind of like scissors vs a paper slicer. The precision is fantastic.”

Dr. Kirzhner says: “I am so excited to be a part of the amazing community at Soaring Surgery Center that gives women in medicine the opportunity to provide our skills in a warm and welcoming environment.”

Our Director of Nursing, Kelsey Necelis, is a strong advocate for her patients, a creative problem
solver, and an extremely intelligent and thorough nurse. She has consistently risen to the highest levels of leadership at each step of her career. She is also a proud dog mom and in honor of International Dog Day, we wanted to highlight Kelsey and her canine bestie.

Today marks one month since we dedicated the surgery center to the Lord. We are so thankful for all He has done in and through this place of blessing. We are thankful for the place, the people, the equipment, and the excellent patient outcomes. We’ve performed more than 20 surgeries now… And we give God all the glory.
