Make sure to reward your pet when they behave well, strengthening the link between good behavior and good rewards. However, avoid unintentionally rewarding unwanted behaviors, waiting until your pet calms down before giving attention. You can also up you reward game by using a high value treat like peanut butter or crunchy-os. In the video below, SDV Dougan alerting his handler, Maria, at the grocery store by giving her a gentle bump. This action is Dougan's way of notifying Maria that he's detected her becoming anxious, offering comfort and assistance in the moment.
