Just had a memorial for Lil Wormy. He was accidentally killed while a shoe was being thrown outside. If you would like to leave a few parting words for Lil Wormie, we do appreciate it.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father as they saw glory just after being swallowed by a 43lb Bass. In place of flowers or donations, Lil Wormy would have wanted you to start a compost to save the earth. Always looking out for the Earth. We will miss you ,Lil Worm.
( you guys better leave some thoughtful messages! I told the kids we can read the kind words in the morning).
The only problem I have with homeschooling is what do I do when I am trying to send AALLLL those projects and papers "home"?!! LOL In the classroom, Friday is clean day. They do not want to get rid of anything..."I am going to play with it tomorrow!" Ugh, and they remember so I can't "refile" it. LOL
Remember when your older cousin made you play school and had you doing assignments and homework? I could have gotten credit for up to 3rd grade and graduated early! before I even knew it!!

We must teach our own of our greatness!!
In 1932, Jan Ernst Matzeliger received a patent for an automatic car gear shift. Major companies welcomed his inventions. Its patent #1889,814.
By the time he created the automatic safety brake in 1962, Jan Ernst Matzeliger was losing his vision. To complete the device, he first created a drafting machine for blind designers. The machine would soon be used in almost every school bus nationwide.
These are other inventions by Jan Ernst Matzeliger:
railroad semaphore (1906)
automatic car washer (1913)
automobile directional signals (1913)
beer keg tap (1910)
self-locking rack for billiard cues (1910)
continuous contact trolley pole (1919)
combination milk bottle opener and cover (1926)
method and apparatus for obtaining average samples and temperature of tank liquids (1931)
automatic gear shift (1932)
transmission and shifting thereof (1933)
automatic shoe shine chair (1939)
multiple barrel machine gun (1940)
horizontally swinging barber chair (1950)
automatic safety brake (1962)
Who remembers playing school? The oldest cousin got to be the teacher. We had to listen and do the lessons. Some cousins got the hard work because they were older and some of us got the easier stuff. You had to go to Momma if you were not listening and she would "scold" you and tell your teacher you better do right. We passed out our crayons and paper and used stuff Momma wouldn't be too mad we were using up. So, basically, our big cousin was homeschooling us. It really is that simple y'all. You can do it!!
So, us grandparents are pretty cool then. lolol
“A third grade teacher asked her class “what is a grandparent?”
“The 8-year-old students took no time to respond with some of the most heartwarming and hilarious answers we’ve ever read.
Children really have a magnificent view of the world!
1- Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people’s.
2- A grandfather is a man and a grandmother is a lady.
3- Grandparents don’t have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old, they shouldn’t play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.
4- When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.
5- They show us and talk to us about the colours of the flowers and also why we shouldn’t step on “cracks”.
6- They don’t say, “Hurry up.”
7- Usually, grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes.
8- They wear glasses and funny underwear.
9- They can take their teeth and gums out.
10- Grandparents don’t have to be smart.
11- They have to answer questions like “Why isn’t God married?” and “How come dogs chase cats?”
12- When they read to us, they don’t skip. They don’t mind if we ask for the same story over again.
13- Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don’t have television because they are the only grownups who like to spend time with us.
14- They know we should have a snack time before bed time, and they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we’ve acted bad.
15- Grandpa is the smartest man on earth. He teaches me good things, but I don’t get to see him enough to get as smart as him.
16- It’s funny when they bend over; you hear gas leaks, and they blame their dog.
17- Grandma, she lives at the airport, and when we want her we just go and get her. Then when she’s done having her visit, we take her back to the airport.”
Cool Stories
How are you making sure you are the best you can be to be a great teacher for your student? Me time? Take a walk? Read a book?
Kwaanza today-Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): Encourages individuals to shape their own destinies. Groups engage in activities that encourage self-reflection and personal goal-setting. Usually, kids must research and share short narratives about public figures from Black history
Y'all, I done messed up and got this Hamilton, Disney fanatic a karaoke machine!! Pray for me!!
These kids still sleep at 1134AM on Christmas. We were up at 5AM. They act like they worked third shift!! LOL
Morning thought
Grandparents, you are no longer in parent mode for your grandchildren (unless you are exclusively raising them). Otherwise, you have gone from being the Visionary Leader (raising your own) to now stepping into the role of Supportive Leader to your grandchildren. Step back. You do not get to call the shots anymore. You are free from deciding what school they will go to or if the parents will homeschool. That is now their choice.
Your role is to support them in their journey, EVEN if you do not agree. This is the time for them to be parents. Let them be. If you want to be included, ask to be able to teach the grandchild something you want them to know. This can be anything from crocheting to knitting to construction to writing or zoology.
Believe that because you raised independent thinkers and those that go against the grain if they choose homeschooling, they are doing it because they believe it is what is best for their child. Be a support and not a flamethrower on their choices. Here is your chance to enjoy Grandparenthood, take it and enjoy it, and let your children now parent the way they see fit.
Thank you and we appreciate you.
Do not feel like your child needs to be reading at 5. That is a US thing that doesn't make sense. Other countries teach reading at 7 and 8 because they are better equipped to learn it. It takes months versus the whole kindergarten school year and they have better comprehension of the material. Do not feel like you are a failure if your baby is not reading. Simply continue to read books, have quiet times, and most of all, let them see you reading other than your computer. Grab an actual book, magazine, newspaper, etc., and sit to read for 30 minutes and then you can discuss your reading. The best thing you can do to get your child to enjoy reading...be the model you want them to be.
How can I help you with your homeschool curriculum? Activity ideas? Learning styles info?
Reading needs to be fun first...THEN, for schoolwork. Otherwise, they will hate it. Are you modeling reading for fun? Take 30 mins to just read...no agenda....no test....no questions at the end....just for the sake of learning something new for yourself. Your children will pick up on that as well as all the other stuff they pick up on that you don't think they notice.
Melissa Benkiel, here we are lol

The solid foundation that all scholars need to understand problem-solving, creativity, fine and large muscle development, and coordination. Provide opportunities in your space for your scholar to play play play play to set those foundations for everything else to follow.
Create centers inside and out to allow scholars to decide what experience they want to have....water tables, gardening, painting, writing tablets, playdoh, dirt and mud, jumpropes, hula hoops, etc.
You do not have to dictate the fun, just orchestrate it.
Here is an idea for you!!
Keep all the liquid soap containers for a scoopers project we will do in the near future. Also, keep the tops to use as scoopers in the water table, dirt table, mud, wherever.
If you do not use liquid soap, go to your local laundry mat and ask the attendant to keep you 6-7 from the next week. They will be more than happy if you tell them it is for your school. We will learn to cut them to make solid sturdy scoopers later this week. Stay tuned.
Our upcoming series will be "Buying on Purpose!" You can pick out some items that you already use with the intent and purpose of reusing them for your homeschool and saving yourself a whole lot of money.
Please share and invite other educators, homeschoolers and anyone who wants to provide great experiences for their scholars.
