It is with great dismay that I bring this very new information to all you cake lovers.

It seems there is once again serious talk among the medical (and now baking) community regarding the cause of COVID-19. Information now points to buttercream. Yes, buttercream... Some officials are calling for the end of cake, and rumor is that all cake will be banned by midnight.

There seems no better day than this one, this first day of April in 2021 (and last day to indulge in buttercream bliss), to share your last bites of quarantine cake with those you love.

In Chattanooga we have lots of places to enjoy trivia with friends, local foods and craft beverages. They also make great venues for smaller, more intimate events (safely, of course).

When I was little, my parents went to eat at Piccadilly every Friday night, and then I would beg to go to the bakery in the same mall.
They had a big window to watch the decorators work, and I would stand and watch FOREVER, if allowed.
It fascinated me to see the ladies take all that shapeless, soft white icing and make so many other things- flowers, characters, people.
It was like magic to a 6 year old girl.
I would get a rose cupcake- the whole top of the cupcake was a rose, and they had all colors.
I always got pink.

When I started my own decorating journey, I found out fast that some magic was required to get through the long days (and nights) of making those ideas come to life- those ladies made it look SO easy! I had no idea...

But now, 25 years on, I think I’ve got the hang of most of it. Funny though, I am still always watching and learning to pick up new ideas, techniques, color combos- cake nerd here for sure. I never get tired of watching. That 6 year old girl is always lurking.
My granddaughter has the decorating bug as well, and I can’t tell you how much I love making memories with her, while shaping a career in edible art that she is so adept at already.

When I was thinking on a business name, I wanted to make sure it had personality. I love to decorate beautiful cakes, to see people enjoy good food, but also to read and I am a huge fan of scary movies.

So...LoveCraft.

An homage to a literary master, and a subculture all its own; but also, an expression of what I see in cakes... edible art, my way of putting positive energy out into the world, of making people smile...
Ideas come to life in the most beautiful and delicious way I know.

It’s nice to think that someone may look back one day and remember LoveCraft as something that brought a little magic to their childhood, or made their wedding a bit more glamorous, or hit the spot at their baby shower when cravings ruled their life.
It’s my way of loving people- creating treats they wouldn’t make for themselves, but from then on are part of their family’s tradition.
