What a weekend at Kids Cartoon Academy!
On Saturday, we built off of last weekβs cube lesson as we found and drew βhiddenβ cubes in our art. Working in basic 3D shapes is the next great leap for many young artists to make. We sketched a 3D monster by combining cubes, and then I turned him into a new version of a Crankyfurter afterwards. π
Then Sunday, pro artist Amanda Kazemi shared about her art, and taught us her process as she led us in drawing a realistic turkey!
Members, lots of great pieces by our students are being posted in the Community for Artists, so go check them out if you havenβt! You can post it here for all of us too if youβd like!
Weβre live in one hour!!! The art that students produce under Miss Amandaβs guidance is always spectacular (just check it out).
Members, youβve got the link in your email and calendar! See you soon!
π No one can stop these young artists from making awesome art! Crankyfurters defeated! π₯³
π When kids see their work improving, that makes it easy for them to feel more confident and easier to overcome those discouraging voices that make them feel bad about their art.
π Join us at kidscartoonacademy.com for weekly live classes and grow your child's joy, creativity, and confidence!
π Behind every one of our artists is a proud parent cheering them on.
π In Kids Cartoon Academy, I make it the best experience for children who were like me as a childβcreative, wildly imaginative, and looking for guidance and support.
π What are you most proud of from your child's art today?
π₯ What a difference continued practice makes! This is our student Krishiv's art, exactly one year apart!
π₯ Encourage your child to look back at their old art to see how far they've come.
π₯ How have you seen your little artists grow lately?
π Just want to share how awesome my students are for defeating crankyfurters! (Crankyfurters are those discouraging voices that keep us feeling bad about ourselves and our art.)
π In Kids Cartoon Academy, I teach kids how to overcome negative self-talk and build confidence in their artistic abilities.
π We also have a supportive and encouraging community that can help them keep grow as confident artists!

Last Saturday in our live Zoom class, members learned about the more you see like an artist, the more you notice how the best characters are made of basic shapes, and you also CONSTRUCT your own characters first from basic shapes. My method for developing this habit is working with circles, squares, and trianglesβand stretching, bending, and pinching them.
Combine those modified shapes in different ways and the results are endless and awesome.
Members even got my Downloadable Guides: Character Design from Basic Shapes! (Members, it's attached on the Replay in case you missed it. And it's in the Tips and Resources in the Community for Artists π)
πΌοΈ Look at how one of my talented students catches so many of the little details!
π₯ I love seeing how much she's developing her artist's eye. Such great practice! π
π₯ Our engaging weekly classes provide a nurturing environment where young artists can explore their potential.

Tip: Use primary and secondary shapes for your creature/character designs.
1οΈβ£ Choose one type of shape as the primary shape of your design. (Rounded, blocky, or pointy)
2οΈβ£ Repeat variations of that shape throughout, from the head to the toes
3οΈβ£ Choose another shape for your smaller secondary shapes and sprinkle just a few smaller variations of those throughout
This improvised creature from class today is mostly circles and skinny, blocky shapes
π More awesome progress from my student in Kids Cartoon Academy. He designed a T-shirt for Adobe along with his supportive parents.π

Creature Design Tip: use contrast. GIANT and tiny, in the same creature. Note how the interesting look of this creature I drew with students in a class comes primarily from the GIANT ARMS AND TAIL contrasted with the tiny head and feet.
Push your original creaturesβ sizes further than you think would work, and youβll be surprised at the amazing results.
