매주 보는 얼굴인데도 속회로 모이면 왠지 더 반갑기만 합니다.
사뭇 진지한 대화를 나누다가도 누군가의 한 마디에 약속이나 한 듯이 웃음이 터져나올 때면, 이 모임들이 마냥 신기하다는 생각만 듭니다. ^^

배움과 나눔이 있는 속회를 통해, 오늘도 우리는 서로 '교회로 지어져 가고 있습니다' (엡 2:21-22)

"LHLF (Little Hands Little Feet) Outreach!"

"우리 한마음 교회 학생들은 정기적으로 지역 사회의 어려운 이웃과 어린이들을 돕기 위한 Little Hands Little Feet 사역을 돕고 있습니다.

오늘은 이웃의 아이들에게 보낼 옷과 물건들을 정리하고, 그 물건들과 함께 보낼 작고 예쁜 카드도 만들었습니다.

오늘도 우리 아이들의 따뜻한 이웃사랑의 마음이 한 뼘 더 자라난 듯 합니다." 😃❤️

Our amazing youth at Unity in Christ Church have been busy today with their Little Hands Little Feet outreach! 🥳

They sorted donations, packed care packages, and created heartwarming cards for children in need in our community.

These young volunteers are learning early that even small acts of kindness can make a big impact. We're so proud of how they're putting their faith into practice and bringing hope to our community. 👍👏

Thank you to everyone who supports this ministry and helps nurture the giving spirit in our youth! 😃😁😄

"진정한 기적" (John 6:1-21)

"진짜 기적이란 무엇일까요? ... 죄로 인해 눈이 먼 세상에서 우리가 하나님을 볼 수 있는 것, 살아계신 하나님이 우리를 돌보시는 분이심을 깨닫게 되는 것, 그것이야말로 진정한 기적입니다.
.. 오늘날 우리는 과연 어떤 교회여야 할까요? 우리의 신앙이 조롱당하고 교회가 손가락질을 받는 이 시대에 우리는 무엇으로 하나님을 보여주어야 할까요?

오늘날 우리에게 필요한 기적이란 과연 어떤 것일까요? 어떤 기적을 통해 하나님을 세상에 증거할 수 있을까요? 과연 우리에게도 기적과 같은 놀라운 일들, 예를 들면 폭발적인 부흥이나 치유의 역사, 초자연적인 현상들이 필요한 걸까요?

적어도 오늘 본문은 그렇지 않다고 말해주는 것 같습니다.
.. 우리에게 필요한 것, 우리 교회에 필요한 것은 우리를 사랑하시는 하나님의 기적적인 사랑을 체험한 우리의 변화된 삶이요, 그 삶을 통해 드러나는 하나님의 사랑의 성품, 곧 돌봄, 사랑, 겸손, 섬김의 모습입니다.

그것이 우리를 참다운 교회되게 할 것이며, 사람들로 하여금 하나님을 보게 하는 진짜 기적이 될 것입니다. 우리 교회가 그와 같은 기적을 드러내는 교회가 되기를 주님의 이름으로 축복합니다. 아멘.
.. In a world blinded by sin, being able to see God, realizing that the living God is the one who cares for us - that is the true miracle.
.. What kind of church should we be today? In this age where our faith is mocked and the church is pointed at, how should we show God?

What kind of miracle do we need today? Through what kind of miracle can we testify about God to the world? Do we really need miraculous events like explosive revival, instances of healing, or supernatural phenomena?

At least today's passage seems to say otherwise ... What we need, what our church needs, is our changed lives that have experienced God's miraculous love for us, and God's loving character revealed through those lives - care, love, humility, and service.

That will make us a true church and will be the real miracle that makes people see God. I bless our church in the name of the Lord to be a church that reveals such miracles. Amen."

"... 우리 교회를 자랑하는 것은 좋지만, 우리 교회만 최고라고 생각하는 것은 자칫 하나님을 우리의 욕망대로 잡아두려는 것일 수 있기 때문입니다. .. It's good to be proud of our church, but thinking our church is the only best one could be an attempt to confine God according to our desires.

우리 교회와 공동체를 자랑스러워 하는 것은 필요하지만, 하나님의 역사하심은 우리 교회 뿐만 아니라 다른 교회와 세상 속에서도 풍성하게 이루어질 수 있음을 우리는 늘 생각해야 합니다.
While it's important to take pride in our church and community, we should always remember that God's work can be abundantly manifested not only in our church but also in other churches and throughout the world.

그래야 우리는 교회 안에서 뿐만 아니라 우리의 삶의 현장이나 교회 바깥의 사역의 현장에서도 하나님의 역사를 경험할 수 있는 것입니다.
This way, we can experience God's work not only within our church but also in our daily lives and in ministry fields outside the church.

그렇게 해야 우리는 주님의 몸의 지체가 되는 다른 교회의 형제 자매들을 시기하고 그들과 경쟁하는 것이 아니라 서로 협력하여 하나님 나라의 선한 일들을 이루어 갈 수 있는 것입니다. 다른 교회의 사역과 부흥을 질투하는 것이 아니라, 그들을 축복하며 진심으로 기쁨을 나눌 수 있는 것입니다.
This enables us to cooperate with our brothers and sisters in other churches, who are also members of the body of Christ, rather than envying them or competing with them, to accomplish good works for God's kingdom. Instead of being jealous of other churches' ministries and growth, we can sincerely share in their joy and bless them...."

"Check out our amazing youth in action!" 🙌

Our UCC students recently visited Laurelbrook Rehabilitation Center to spread some love to our local Korean seniors. They gave shoulder massages, handed out snack bags with heartfelt cards, and brightened everyone's day!

This is all part of our Youth Engage Seniors (YES) project, funded by the UMC's Racial Ethnic Local Church Grant. We're bridging generations, fighting loneliness, and helping our youth make a real difference.

So proud of these students for showing God's love in such a hands-on way. This is what community is all about! ❤️🥳

우리 교회는 여러 조사를 통해, 한인이민가정의 노년인구 중 30-40%가 정신적 고통(우울증, 외로움 등)을 겪고 있으며, 자녀 세대(특히 청소년)의 18%가 정신 건강 문제를 갖고 있음을 알게 되었습니다. 그러나 미국 사회나 한인이민가정 내에서 그들이 실제 도움을 받는 비율은 매우 낮다는 것도 알게 되었습니다. (언어/문화/세대간 차이 등의 원인)

한마음교회(Unity in Christ UMC)는 한인 이민 교회로서 이 문제를 향한 주님의 마음을 품기 위해 애써 왔습니다. 그 결과로 시작한 것이 YES (Youth Engage Seniors) 프로젝트입니다.

지난달부터 우리는 YES 프로젝트의 일환으로 지역 시니어 센터를 방문하고 있습니다. 처음에는 이 방문이 얼마나 효과가 있을지 의문이 들었던 것도 사실입니다. 하지만 실제로 경험한 결과는 놀라웠습니다.

어르신들은 이민 2세, 3세 자녀들과의 만남 자체로 큰 기쁨을 느끼셨고, 우리 아이들 역시 예상을 뛰어넘는 열정으로 봉사에 임했습니다 (몇몇 아이들은 눈물을 흘리기도 했지요). 우리는 이 경험을 통해, 한인이민자들의 세대 간 교류의 중요성을 다시 한 번 확인할 수 있었습니다.

앞으로도 우리는 하나님께 겸손히 나아갈 길을 물으며, 지역사회와 이웃을 섬기는 교회가 되기 위해 노력할 것입니다.

지금의 YES 프로젝트가 더욱 확장되어 가려져 있던 우리 이웃들의 아픔을 위로하고, 그들에게 그리스도의 소망을 전하는 사역으로 성장하길 소망합니다.

교육부 예배 on Sunday, July 14th, 2024

예배 직전까지는 언제나 긴장 가득한 얼굴로 예배 준비에 몰두하는 '이지해 목사님'은, 일단 예배가 시작되고 나면 180도 표정이 바뀝니다. 아이들을 바라보는 이 목사님의 모습이 그토록 환할 수가 없습니다.

아이들을 향한 열심 있는 모습을 통해, 얼마나 그녀가 이 사역을 진지하게 여기고 또한 아이들을 사랑하고 있는지를 느낄 수 있습니다.

우리 아이들 역시 이지해 목사님을 여간 좋아하는 것이 아닙니다. 물론 그렇다고 아이들이 항상 목사님의 말도 잘 듣고 얌전한 것은 아니지만 말입니다. ^^

이 목사님의 사역과 우리 한마음 교회 공동체의 협력과 기도를 통해, 이 아이들이 인생의 소중한 가치를 깨달으며 건강하게 자라나길 항상 기대합니다. 😀👍

Snapshots from the 7th Sunday after Pentecost at Unity in Christ UMC: Preparatory gathering for senior center visit next week (cookie and card packing), two services, and pizza fellowship after 1 pm service. 😃😁

On Sunday afternoon, June 30th, UCC students volunteered for Little Hands Little Feet (LHLF), an outreach ministry at St. Andrew's UMC. We pray that this experience goes beyond simply helping with tasks. Our hope is that through this service, our children's hearts and souls will be nourished, and they will deeply internalize the value of 'living in community' with others. May this opportunity plant seeds of compassion and service in their lives.

에어컨이 고장나 찜통 같았던 교회. 무덥고 습한 공기 너머, 저 멀리서 깔깔거리는 웃음소리와 부산하게 움직이는 발걸음 소리가 들려왔습니다. LHLF 사역을 위해 물건을 정리하고 포장하던 아이들에게서 들려온 소리였습니다. 그 더운 날씨에도 찌푸린 표정 하나 찾을 수 없었습니다.
'그저 보는 것만으로도 마음이 뿌듯하다'는 말은 이런 때 하는 말인 모양입니다. 셔츠를 적신 땀이 불쾌하게 느껴질만도 했건만, 입가에선 미소가 떠나지 않았던 것을 보면 말입니다.

하나님께서 이끌어 가실 이 아이들의 미래가 진심으로 기대됩니다.

Nurture the seeds You've planted in their hearts, that they may become Your bold, bright ambassadors to their generation and the generations to come. Help us pour into them wisdom, love and truth from Your Word, so they may go forth as change-makers, bringing more of Your Kingdom here on earth..."

우리는 사진 속 이 학생들이 곧 우리 교회의 미래라고 믿습니다.

우리는 이 아이들이 장차 어떤 어른이 될지는 알지 못합니다. 커다란 백향목과 같이 주목받는 인생을 살게 될지, 작은 겨자나무와 같이 평범하고 소박한 삶을 살게 될지 모릅니다.

다만 그들이 장차 어떤 인생을 살든 간에, 쉼과 위로가 필요한 사람들에게 기꺼이 '쉴 수 있는 가지와 그늘'을 내어줄 수 있는 '하나님 나라에 속한 나무'와 같은 사람이 되길 소망하고 기도할 뿐입니다.

함께 기도해 주시길 바랍니다.

Youth visit Korean seniors at Laurel Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center

".... 오늘 오후에 우리 교회 교육부가 아이들과 함께 처음으로 우리 지역의 senior center를 방문합니다. 우리는 그곳에서 만나는 어른들과 함께 예배 드리고 음식을 먹고 대화를 나눌 것입니다.
This afternoon, our church's education department is visiting a local senior center with the children for the first time. We will worship together, share a meal, and have conversations with the residents there.

이것은 우리 교회가 안식일의 명령을 지키기 위한 작은 노력 중 하나입니다. 그리고 우리는 앞으로도 참된 안식과 위로가 필요한 많은 사람들을 향해 우리의 노력을 기울일 것입니다.
This is one small effort by our church to uphold the spirit of the Sabbath command. And we will continue striving to bring true rest and comfort to many more who need it.

저는 우리 교회가 이런 곳이면 좋겠습니다. 율법이 아니라 생명에 관해 말하고, 예수님께서 보여주신 안식일의 참된 정신을 따르며, 그것을 더 잘 알기 위해 공부하고, 안식이 필요한 이들이 누구이며, 어떻게 하면 그들과 함께 하나님이 명령하신 안식과 회복을 누릴 수 있을지를 고민하는 교회였으면 좋겠습니다.
I hope our church can be a place that speaks of life over rules, follows the true spirit of the Sabbath law as Jesus demonstrated, studies to better understand that life, and wrestles with who needs rest and how we can help them experience the Sabbath renewal that God desires for all his creation.

함께 그런 교회를 만들어 가길 소망합니다. 주님의 은혜와 평화를 빕니다. 아멘.
Let us build that kind of church together. May the grace and peace of the Lord be with you. Amen."

오랜 준비와 기도 끝에 한마음 교회 학생부 예배를 처음으로 드렸습니다. 하나님께서 이 학생들에게 하나님 나라에 대한 꿈과 비전을 심어주시길 소망합니다. 🙏

For the first time since Unity in Christ UMC was established, we held an independent worship service for our Youth Group. It was made possible through the hard work and efforts of many, as well as sincere prayers offered over a long period of time. Through this worship service, we hope that our next generation will also worship God and build up their faith solidly. Hallelujah!
