Aspiration continues to be controversial and it may result in a false negative. Recent research suggests aspiration alone should not be relied upon. Other factors should be considered including using reversible fillers, slow injection speed, understanding of anatomy, injection planes and low extrusion force to name a few. The facial filler syringes have not been manufactured for aspiration. When the syringe is full of hyaluronic acid gel it is even harder to perform pull aspiration on the plunger for up to 5-10 sec without pulling off the plunger.
