Celebrating Pride Month - What Does Pride Mean to Julie Li?
Throughout June, members of our #LGBTQ Forum share what #Pride means to them. Julie Li serves as the manager of our San Francisco office. She maintains all on-site operations, manages and mentors professional staff, and encourages a community-oriented working environment. Before joining us, Julie worked as special assistant to the chief of staff in the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, where she worked closely with Ann M. O’Leary, who is now a Jenner & Block partner, on COVID-19 response. She later served as executive project manager at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development. Julie discusses introspection in this Pride spotlight.

Throughout June, members of our #LGBTQ Forum share what #Pride means to them. Special Counsel Lauren Greene is a member of our Content, Media, and Entertainment Practice. She represents a wide variety of entertainment industry clients including music publishers, songwriters, television and film producers, independent studios, and video game publishers and developers. Lauren is committed to community involvement and serves as a co-president of the LGBTQ+ Lawyers Association of Los Angeles. She is also an emeritus associate board member of the Shelter Partnership, an organization that addresses homelessness in Los Angeles. Lauren discusses uniqueness in this Pride spotlight.

Throughout June, members of our #LGBTQ Forum share what #Pride means to them. Kyle Tramonte is an associate in our Litigation Department and a member of our Associates Committee. While at Harvard Law School, he served as a teaching assistant in the First Year Legal Research and Writing Program and as a student attorney in the law school’s Capital Punishment Litigation Clinic. Before law school, Kyle worked as an investigative analyst in the Rackets Bureau of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Kyle explains why Pride is a dynamic commitment in this spotlight.

His work focuses on the monitorships of major financial institutions following settlements with state and federal regulators related to violations of US tax and securities laws. George has been involved in many notable cases and spent years on the federal monitorship of the Cincinnati Police Department, which resulted in significant structural changes that remain in place to this day. He is also involved in advocacy for various LGBTQ interests. George discusses what comes to mind when he thinks of Pride.

Jenner & Block is proud of our long history of impactful female leaders. Throughout #WomensHistoryMonth we are spotlighting these inspiring women and their influence on the lives of colleagues. Partner Kirsten Hicks Spira Spira co-chairs Jenner & Block’s nationally recognized Professional Responsibility Practice and is also a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation and Labor and Employment Practices. She is a trial attorney with extensive experience litigating professional liability matters, employment claims, class actions, and commercial disputes. She has tried jury and bench trials, arbitrated cases to judgment, and successfully argued cases before the California Courts of Appeal and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Partner AnnaMarie Van Hoesen highlights Kirsten’s commitment to mentorship and #probono work.

Asylum Granted for Nicaraguan Mother and Daughter
In 2021, a Jenner & Block team represented a Nicaraguan political activist and local opposition party official and her 14-year-old daughter. They faced a series of escalating threats by police and other government agents for supporting a national movement protesting the authoritarian regime of President Daniel Ortega. The team on the case included Partner Tom O'Neill, Associates Jonathan E. and Brian Druchniak, Staff Attorney Edmundo Cuevas, paralegals Charlotte Stretch and Sharlean Perez, and Girish Kashyap, the managing director of our client GCM Grosvenor, as co-counsel. Women's History Month - Spotlighting Kali Bracey
Jenner & Block is proud of our long history of impactful female leaders. Throughout #WomensHistoryMonth we are spotlighting these inspiring women and their influence on the lives of colleagues. Partner Kali Bracey, co-chair of the Consumer Law and State Enforcement and Regulation Practices, began her career at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. She is a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Torts Branch of the DOJ’s Civil Division, former CFPB lawyer, and has served as the Washington Commanders’ interim general counsel. Kali works on a wide range of cases including serving on the team monitoring Citigroup’s provision of consumer relief following their settlement with the Department of Justice in the aftermath of the housing crisis. She also represents clients before the CFPB. Kali also successfully represented a branch of the Service Employees International Union in a National Voter Registration Act case and the North Carolina League of Conservation voters in a redistricting case. Partner David DeBruin discussed her impact.
