Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️ As our proud Irish mom would say: “God put a tongue in your mouth, now use it.”

We Duggan Sisters work every day to honor her and all our ancestors. Be loud. Be everything. Make them proud. 💚

“Can you hear them?” Clare bellowed from the rear of the cottage. Not only hear them I stood in the bay window in my cozy living room and I could see them in formation making their glorious racket.

It’s time to reread it, I thought, as I pulled it from the shelf. My God, I realized, as it crumbled in my fingers as I retrieved it, I have cared about wild things for a very long time.

I also had to come face-to-face with my criminal past. A stamp inside the book reads Property of the Galesburg Public Library, Galesburg, Illinois!

Immediately I remembered and deeply reconnected with that young woman, food insecure, always hustling for the next dollar, always exhausted but carefully laying the foundation for the life I live today. And all of this in the first 5 minutes of the day. Life is rich and full of surprises; and if we’re lucky still wild and beautiful and joyous.

What native seeds did you plant this winter?

We’ve been hearing a lot of concern that this eerily mild winter will prevent your fall/winter-sown seed from stratifying. We sincerely share your concern about the changing climate, but let us offer a small consolation—your seeds are still stratifying. Optimal stratification temps vary from species to species, but generally fall between 32 and 50 degrees Fahrenheit (some seeds stratify better closer to 50 than 32). In a normal year, stratification probably occurs more in the fall and early spring than in the heart of winter for northern climates. Given the nighttime low temperatures and the fact that soil temps are moderated compared to air temps, those of us in northern states still probably have a good stratification window before soils really warm up this spring. Regardless, if you have a site prepped and ready, now is still a great time for EVERYONE to plant a native seed mix! 🌱

This is a honey bee. The pollen on her legs is from dandelions.Her tongue is sticking out due to what killed her that was on the dandelions. It's spring, dandelions are the bees first food. This bee is dead from w**d killer spread on what we see as w**ds, but what nature sees as food. Please don't spray for w**ds until vou see the blackberries blooming. In this area, w**ds, flowers and fruit trees are bees only source of food until midle of June. There are FAR more w**ds than flowers or fruit trees, so it's their only food source. No bees, no food crops for us and we all starve.
