We had a really fun field trip to The Art Institute where we explored all kinds of art together. Our youth were especially intrigued by Van Gogh’s story, fascinated by the ancient Greek statues, and amazed by the Impressionist technique of painting with tiny colored dots. #fieldtrip #comercenter #comercampus #artmuseum
We’re kicking off Black History Month with a recap video of our MLK Community Celebration. Thank you @zootsuitzombae @whatwasbreakfast (IG) We celebrated MLK’s birthday, our community, and its heroes. Our culinary team fed us with a variety of delicious bites. We had spectacular performances by Sam Thousand & Duane Powell. Binkey gave a wonderful ode to MLK as our keynote, calling on all of us to get more familiar with our sense of identity. A youth-led panel took place in collaboration with Pigment International including founder Patricia Andrews-Keenan and artists; Paul Branton, Edo White and Kristen Williams. Our youth were able to also put together a self portrait exhibit showcasing their artistic talent. He began with us as a Green Teen, now he works as a Comer Crops intern, and is poised to become a founding member of our Youth Leaders Program. As an official Community Anchor org for the City of Chicago, Javontay and other youth leaders will help guide the collaborative development of our community plan to serve youth better along with various stakeholders in Greater Grand Crossing and beyond.
