A group of business and civic leaders in the Chicago Southland region participated in United Way’s April Food Day in 2013. We wanted to raise awareness of the need to keep our pantries full and serving hungry families year-round. We wanted to encourage businesses, schools and churches to have more food drives, and we wanted to make it fun. We work with United Way, Chicago Southland Convention & Vi

Each year, this massive annual food collection initiative addresses food insecurity in the south-southwest suburbs, a region facing high levels of poverty and systemic education, health, and wealth inequities. We’re gearing up to replenish ten pantries and advance equitable access to food throughout the south-southwest region!

APRIL FOODS DAY: Join us in supporting food security in the Southland! From April 1st to April 25th, we're joining forces with United Way of Metro Chicago for April Food Day to replenish food pantry shelves and ensure equitable access to fresh food in our community. Here's how you can help:
DONATE unopened, non-expired cans and boxes (no glass) including:
• 100% fruit and vegetable juice
• Bagged rice and beans (canned or dry)
• Canned fruits and vegetables
• Cereal, oatmeal, granola bars
• Chips, cookies, and crackers
• Peanut butter & jelly
• Infant supplies, baby food, formula, diapers
• Laundry detergent
• Toiletries including soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, and menstrual products.
Drop off your donations at the Matteson Village Hall or Matteson Community Center during regular operating hours. Together, let's make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. Thank you for your generosity and support!

One in 10 rural families face poverty – that rate jumps to one in three for rural families headed by single moms.
Join me at the Tinley Park Convention Center. Food drop-off is 10 AM - 2 PM Wednesday, April 13th. If you are unable to attend the food drive, you can donate a bag of groceries to your local food pantry on the 13th. Tell them Happy April Food Day and “food is love.” Big Thanks!
