Fifth Grade Yoga
Happy International Kid's Yoga Day! Our fifth graders got the week started off in great form practicing Sun Salutations and breathing exercises. Thank you to Ms. Collias, Ms. Finkle and the fifth grade team for making this happen.

Third grader Caden H. turned in an outstanding performance at the state gymnastics competition on March 22. Caden, who is a member of the Future Stars development team for Region 5, took fourth place overall after finishing second on the pommel horse, third on the floor, fourth on the vault, fifth on the still rings and sixth on the parallel bars. Check out this video of Caden's routine on the pommel horse. Next up for Caden is a trip to regionals on April 4, where he will compete against other athletes from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. We want to congratulate Caden on his amazing achievements, and wish him the best of luck at regionals.

As the Roman Circus group closes the curtain on their incredible Project Week experience, here is a glimpse of their final act.

Through embracing risks, experiencing setbacks and persevering, the students in the Roman Circus group have not only enjoyed the journey of learning the circus arts, they have also cultivated a supportive environment where they lean on one another for growth and understanding.

Here’s another amazing video update from the Madeira Swiftwater Canyoneering Challenge group that is spending its Project Week in Portugal. The group took part in a seminar where they learned to distinguish between scary and dangerous situations. They explored how seemingly safe scenarios can hold hidden risks, while experiences that trigger fear may not be as dangerous as they appear. They also enjoyed a heart-pounding 50-60 meter rappel that culminated in a guided descent to the seashore.

Check out the skill and form being displayed by our Out in Nature, into Science at Teton Science School group as they cross country ski in Grand Teton National Park while learning about the abiotic factors that shape the landscape. No pressure, but there is still plenty of time to qualify for the next Winter Olympics.

Here is the latest video update from the Madeira Swiftwater Canyoneering Challenge group that is spending its Project Week in Portugal. In the video, we see the students exploring the concept of risk management. As part of this process, they worked toward creating their own risk fingerprint by examining how comfortable they were with scenarios in the following categories: physical risk, academic risk, emotional risk, financial risk and social risk. The students also learned a few new skills that they applied during their descent into the canyon, and had their resilience tested when they had to change out of their wetsuits in a downpour.

The Introduction to Boxing group sent us this video of them working hard on their technique at Hammer Fitness and Boxing. Is anyone else singing “Eye of the Tiger” right now?

Check out this brief video of the Roman Circus: Thrills and Chills group working hard to hone their circus arts skills. Ms. Preciado shared the following update about the group’s Project Week experience thus far: “In the circus, we never say ‘that’s easy’ because what might be easy for one person might be extremely difficult for someone else. Our Romans have explored the tight wire, trapeze, lyra, juggling, flower sticks, tumbling and much more! Stay tuned for many magical moments from The Roman Circus later this week!!!”

Here is another video update from the Madeira Swiftwater Canyoneering Challenge group that is spending its Project Week in Portugal. In this video, we see students applying the skills they have learned to traversing a canyon with a waterfall and running water in the middle of Laurissilva jungle.

We're back with another update from our West End on Demand group. Check out this video of them dancing to "Revolting Children" from "Matilda the Musical." While we were inspired by this fantastic performance and loved the big finish at the end, we think it would be best to keep our two left feet off to the side of the studio and leave the dancing to our talented students.

Check out this cool video that was created by students in Wayne Wheatley's seventh grade science class. The group is studying the skeletal system and used LEGO pieces to model the different types of joints they learned about.
