Mention core exercises and most people think of moves that help you carve out washboard abs. Although core exercises can get you that flat belly, there are definitely more important reasons to work your core muscles. For example, did you know that a weak core can actually make it harder to move your arms and legs and can make most everyday moves more difficult? Core exercises not only help to ease pain, they improve your balance and increase your flexibility, which can help you maintain your independence. It can also help to relieve pain which will also help you maintain your independence.

Better Core muscles will help:

Make everyday tasks like bending, turning, and reaching easier

Reduce your risk of falling and lower your risk for fractures

Prevent incontinence

Increase muscle power so you can do more without getting fatigued

Prevent and even relieve low back pain

My classes and private sessions are designed to help improve your strength to make daily activities easier to do and make it possible to continue playing sports like tennis, golf, swimming, and running or walking. All of the exercises you do with me can be made easier or harder, depending on your fitness level. Best of all, you can work on some of these core moves at home.

Check out the video below: Make sure you always release your abs, ribs and back when you inhale and pull them all in with the exhale.

[email protected] sanavitastudio.com As we grow older, muscle mass in the body generally shrinks, and the strength in our body declines. The process can begin sooner than you think. Sarcopenia—defined as age-related muscle loss—can begin at around age 35 and occurs at a rate of 1-2 percent a year for the typical person. After age 60, it can accelerate to 3 percent a year. While we may think that all of these changes are due to aging alone, disuse of muscles plays a bigger role than many people realize. Studies have shown that one in every three adults ages 65 and older falls each year. But these studies also suggest that strength and power training can help reverse these effects and restore muscle function. This is why it is so important to be consistent with your exercise training with us! #wellnessjourney #pilates #pilatesstudio #yoga #strength #alignment #mobility #pilatesworkout #pilatesclass #pilatesstrong #pilateschicago #chicagofit #chicagosmallbusiness

Avoiding Leg Cramps: To avoid leg cramps, drink plenty of fluids before and during exercise. Muscles need fluid to contract and relax properly.Pilates & Yoga can help with muscle cramps by improving flexibility, enhancing circulation, and strengthening muscles. The stretching and elongating movements in Pilates & Yoga exercises can help reduce muscle tension and stiffness that may contribute to cramping. Additionally, Pilates focuses on core strength and stability, which can help support and stabilize muscles, reducing the likelihood of experiencing cramps during physical activity. Moreover, the emphasis on proper breathing techniques in Pilates & Yoga can enhance oxygen flow to muscles, promoting better circulation and potentially reducing the occurrence of cramps. Do some stretches before bed if you tend to get cramps while you sleep. It's important to practice Pilates & Yoga under the guidance of a trained instructor to further minimize the risk of muscle cramps. If you experience persistent or severe muscle cramps, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional. Better balance is very important! It is very important to understand what balance is and then you can take the appropriate steps to improve your balance. Balance is mostly an automatic reflex. As we age into our 50s and 60s, you may notice yourself becoming less stable. But if you include activities that enhance balance, you can prevent much of this decline. So balance workouts need to be included into your overall fitness plan. The workouts in our classes are designed to improve your balance skills, both while you hold steady (static balance) and while you’re in motion (dynamic balance). You will reap incredible benefits from attending classes that include important balance-boosting movements! #pilatesbody #pilatesforlife #pilatesstudio #chicagopilates #womeninbiz #pilatesforalllevels #coreworkouts #pilateschangeslives #pilatesinstructors #smallbusiness #supportsmallbiz #bucktownchicago #bucktown #personaltraining #yoga #balance

Let's face it - we all sit too much! Long hours at work, in your car and even relaxing at home all contribute to chronic back pain over time. But just because life requires you to sit down for awhile, it doesn't mean you have to suffer as a result! Things to keep in mind: 🟣 Make sure you keep your spine neutral and your legs at a 90 degree angle. 🟣 Inhale on your way up and exhale on your way down. 🟣 Try this for 10-12 reps with a 3 second inhale and 6 second exhale! Anyone with very tight hips, shoulders or low back knows how hard it can be to get a GOOD stretch. But there’s a good reason for that…it is because trying to relieve muscle tightness by stretching is often the WRONG approach. The truth is, when we FORCE a tight muscle to relax through a typical stretching routine, you can do more HARM than good to your body. It is much more important to understand WHY the muscle is really tight in the first place. Whatever movement you are doing, you should always feel looser after. This is where the idea of "muscle memory" comes in. Muscle Memory is NOT memory stored in your muscles: they are created in your brain. It's quite fascinating how this works. When you learn something new — like how to play tennis, pickleball, golf or learn a new dance step — your brain creates a blueprint of that activity. This gets recorded in your nervous system for future reference. It’s this important memory that tells your nerves which muscles to contract or relax… to what degree of strength… and in what order. This occurs automatically, without you ever having to think about it. But here's the downside…if you repeat the movement often enough and your brain assumes it’s important enough to record a muscle memory....it will do this whether the muscle memory is a healthy one or not. So if you record a good muscle memory your brain keeps your body moving with ease and comfort. If you record a bad muscle memory… oh boy, that’s where things can go painfully wrong. It will result in keeping your muscles chronically contracted and tight. If you’re significantly tighter one day than the next, you need to know what caused it and take measures to do a reset specific to the activity giving you problems. This is what you will learn in our classes and private sessions. We will teach you the right way to move and this will result in very beneficial muscle memory. As you can see in the video, just doing simple movements correctly wi

One of the most important issues for Sana Vita to address with our clients is a sense of physicality and body awareness. Body awareness is the facility to observe and maintain perception of your body; it is the capacity to feel your body in both movement and stillness and create the most outstanding and sustainable changes in your body. One private 55-minute lesson is $55 for new clients. New clients can also purchase two private 55-minute lessons for $110.
