Dive into Heart Valve Dynamics! Watch this simulation of an artificial tri-leaflet heart valve as it opens and closes in sync with the blood pressure cycle. Witness the phenomenon of a "snap-through instability" during this dynamic process, where even the slightest change in load induces a dramatic shift in displacements. During the valve's opening and closing phase, it exhibits a momentary loss of stiffness, rendering the load-displacement curve nearly horizontal. As the valve fully opens, stiffness is restored, primarily through membrane stresses in the leaflets. To navigate the snap-through event seamlessly, the time step size is automatically adjusted, resulting in the red marker on the timeline appearing almost stationary. The leaflets are intricately modeled through Finite Elements using an advanced Hyperelastic material model, all made possible with the robust capabilities of Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
