Ellen Arkbro & Johan Graden have just shared the second single from their upcoming album, I get along without you very well, out September 23rd!

"'Never near' was the last song to be composed for the album and the writing process differed quite significantly from how we worked with the rest of the songs. I remember it being a very intuitive process, basically us trying to follow the momentum of the chord progression’s “elastic” quality which together with this kind of eerie melody line it seemed to follow its own particular logic. We asked the other musicians to “mimic” the melody in real time while recording without them having heard the song in advance, something that both enhanced the tension between the musical elements while simultaneously weaving them together. I think this song offers a contrasting layer to the record as a whole, perhaps an alternative point of entry to the music." - Johan Graden

The record captures Haino and the 3 members of SUMAC live on stage, navigating a series of spontaneous compositions in front of an attentive audience, with no prior discussions or planning involving the direction of the music. Recorded on May 21, 2019, at the Astoria Hotel on Vancouver BC’s notorious East Hastings Street as a one-off performance during a short North American tour for Haino, the 6 compositions showcase a musical unit bouncing unfiltered ideas off of one another, mining a trove of textures and timbres from their armory to buoy and bolster these living and breathing pieces.
