Wow! 🥳 I am beyond honored to have earned 2nd place for Best Women's Clothier in the Best of Chico!
Competing alongside so many incredible, long-standing businesses makes this recognition even more special.
To come in second to For Elyse, a downtown Chico icon since 1998, is truly an honor. Amber's story is so similar to mine—we both opened our shops at 21, both young moms with big dreams. Knowing our journeys have run parallel, this feels like a win for us both. 💛
That said... I can't help but feel a little bitter that we didn't even place in Best Men's Clothier! 😅
Since 2015, we've been growing our men's selection, and now we have a 1,000 sq ft men's department that we’re incredibly proud of.
So, if you haven't checked it out yet, come see what you're missing!
Maybe next year, we'll be celebrating a spot on that list too! 😉
🎁 We love when the universe brings everything full circle!
When we first received our Lantern Print Co. order, we were excited about the beautiful designs but didn’t realize they were made right here in Chico! Even more surprising? Their packaging was so similar to another brand we adore—Polanshek of The Hills. Turns out, these two incredible artists, Jess Polanshek and Lindsay, the creator behind Lantern Print Co., were roommates back in the day at the Academy of Art in SF. Talk about a small world!
It’s incredible to see how friendships and connections from their Academy of Art days continue to influence their work today.
Zoom into our flat lay to check out their gorgeous cards and other perfect gift items. Supporting local never looked so good! ✨
🛍️ Mom, we know how important it is to help your daughter feel confident and comfortable during sorority recruitment!
For the "Open House" or "ice water" round of Fall Rush 2024, we've got just the dress to make sure she’s ready to shine.
Our little blue dress strikes the perfect balance between casual and dressy—ideal for those first days of meeting new friends.
Plus, it's easy to style with flats or wedges for a polished yet comfortable look.
Come by and let us help you both find the perfect outfit to kick off this exciting journey! 💙

Two weeks ago, we received a new batch of pronoun pins, and I’ve been hesitant to put them on display. The last time we had these pins, I faced hostility and was confronted and spat on. It was a painful experience that made me question whether I should continue carrying them.
But here’s the truth: I don’t sell pronoun pins because they bring in a lot of money. I sell them because they are a symbol of what Anika Burke stands for—a safe space where everyone can feel seen, safe, and loved. My goal has always been to create an environment where people can be their authentic selves without fear of judgment.
I promise I’m not trying to push any ideology. I simply want Anika Burke to be a sanctuary for those who need it. In a world where it can be difficult to find acceptance, I hope our shop can be a place of comfort and support.
To anyone who feels unseen or unsafe elsewhere, please know that you are welcome here. Your identity is valid, and your presence is cherished. At Anika Burke, you are seen. You are safe. You are loved.

I’ve been thinking a lot about dreams lately. You know, those big, sometimes scary aspirations we hold deep inside. For the longest time, I felt embarrassed to share mine because they seemed unstable or too ambitious.
One of my dreams is to recreate a beloved restaurant from my past, Pluto’s, which was the best lunch spot and our neighbor until it went out of business. I envision bringing it back to life in the same location, but I know it would take nothing short of a miracle to make it happen.
I realized that so many of us might feel the same way—scared to share our dreams for fear of disappointment or embarrassment. But I’ve come to understand that we need to dream together, to support each other, and to believe in one another.
So, here I am, sharing my dream with you. I hope you’ll share yours too. Let’s dream together and build the courage to make those dreams a reality. 🌟
What’s a dream you’ve been holding onto? Share it with me, and let’s believe in each other.

Today marks a very special day for me and for Anika Burke—our 21st anniversary! On this day, back in 2003, I decided to embark on an incredible journey by opening my shop in Mount Shasta, California. Starting a business on the 4th of July may seem unconventional, but for me, it made perfect sense. My parents, who have owned businesses in Mount Shasta since the 1970s, always said that the 4th was the busiest retail day of the year, thanks to the Largest Small Town fun-run. It was the perfect day to launch my dream.
Anika Burke began as Suzie’s Kids, a children’s store named in honor of my mother’s shop, Suzie’s. Growing up in my mom’s clothing store, I developed a deep love for retail and fashion. As a new mother in my small hometown, opening a kids’ shop across the street from my mom’s store just felt right. By 2004, we expanded to Bend, OR, and shortly after, rebranded Suzie’s Kids into Anika Burke.
The journey hasn’t always been easy. One of our most significant challenges came in 2016 when, during a Disney World vacation, we received a three-day notice to purchase our building or move out. It was a stressful time, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Purchasing the building gave us a forever home in Downtown Chico, rooting us deeply in this wonderful community.
Over the years, Anika Burke has evolved alongside me. I was just 21 when we opened, and as I’ve grown, so has my understanding of quality and ethical manufacturing. Our shop has transformed—phasing out the kids' department in 2010, adding men's clothing in 2014, gifts in 2016, and home goods in 2019. We’ve developed our own unique style, moving away from fleeting trends.
Closing our Mount Shasta location in 2009 was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. It felt like leaving home, but I knew it was the right choice for my family and the future of Anika Burke. A more recent challenge was the fire in 2020, which caused smoke damage that kept us closed for over a year. There were rumors that we wouldn’t reopen, but the support of our community kept us going. We believe in the importance of in-person shopping and the relationships it fosters.
Our customers are more than just customers—they’re our friends. We’ve built deep, meaningful relationships with the people who walk through our doors. Every interaction, every shared story, and every smile makes this journey worthwhile. It’s not just about selling clothes; it’s about providing a safe space where people can be their authentic selves.
Looking back on these 21 years, I’m filled with gratitude for all the support and love from our community. Thank you for being a part of our journey. Here’s to many more years of friendship, fashion, and community at Anika Burke.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Neeka

The Story of Becoming Anika Burke
It all really started back in 1999. I was young and in love with the idea of business and had a serious obsession with clothing, fashion and everything in between. As I walked the streets of Hollywood trying to pedal the most amazing faux fur blankets that my friend was making in her LA suburb home I dreamed of making Anika Burke a national brand.
Fast forward a few years to 2003, I was young mom living back in my hometown at the base of the most amazing mountain and was wanting to break free from the family business and to do my own thing. At this time I really could not pursue MY dream because I did not want to compete with the people who taught me all I know, aka my parents. So a little baby boutique was born and soon I was bored. I loved my customers and I loved the freedom being my own boss, but baby clothes were not my thing.
So in 2004 we packed up our little family of 3 and moved away to Bend, OR. Being in Bend I was able to expand my wings and grow and fail, and grow some more. Bend was fun but after a bad miscarriage and another pregnancy HOME was calling my name.
In 2006 AnikaBurke.com was born and our little baby boutique in the heart of Mount Shasta metamorphed into a fun high end shop for mom and baby, soon which our sweet little Burkie was born. We had a lot of fun in Mount Shasta, but then the recession hit and Scott’s stable job in construction became not so stable, once again uprooting my little shop, as Scott pursued his dreams.
In the fall of 2009 we landed in the middle nowhere (Chico, CA) for Scott to pursue his dream of becoming an engineer, but unbeknownst to us Anika Burke EXPLODED, and my dream became ‘OUR’ dream, and a little magic happened as our 3rd baby, AKA Anika Burke Downtown Chico, was born at 211 Main Street. Our shop is ever evolving and I am still trying to figure out how to make my BIGGEST dream of becoming a national known name in fashion come true. But until then I will just keep dreaming and sharing my LOVE of beautiful goodness with you!
LOVE, Anika Burke
