Statement regarding last nights Committee of the Whole meeting:

It’s incredibly disheartening to see that another proposal to genuinely better the governmental structure of the City of Chicopee has fallen flat with little or no discussion. However, that’s just the democratic process, and life will go on. I can only hope that future administrations within Chicopee are as committed to providing funding to our schools as this one claims to be. If the time arises I hope that proposals like my non-binding ballot initiative to have appointed rather than elected officials or this special act giving the Council more control over local finances can be reconsidered. But that will be for a more forward thinking generation of politicians to accomplish if and when they see fit.

I know that many of my colleagues on the Council find me tiresome to work with at times, but I hope they know that every order and motion I put forward, I do it to try to improve how local government works for the people of the City of Chicopee. At the end of the day, we’re all trying to work toward that goal even if we disagree on a few votes. I’m proud of the robust and efficient public services Chicopee provides while keeping taxes comparatively low. I think they stand to function just a little better with some meaningful reform and discussion, and I’m proud to be the only one starting those discussions.

Mr Tillotson wasn’t someone I knew particularly well before my time in public office, but once I was in it he was always willing to offer advice to me and was always an amazing person to talk to. Your years of service to your city and your country in the armed forces, as an educator, and as a school committee member and city councilor will ensure that you’ve left your mark on not just the city, but the over 50,000 people who inhabit it. You will be missed, Mr. Tillotson, and my thoughts and prayers are with your family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the student and their family. I would like to express my appreciation for all the school officials who responded and to the superintendent for issuing a prompt and compassionate statement. Rest assured I have contacted the superintendent to see how we can prevent issues like this from happening in the future.

Chicopee, we did it! With your support we managed to secure one of the four At-Large seats on the City Council! It couldn’t have been possible without everyone who came out to support me, and I’m humbled and honored by the response I received at the polls all day yesterday and the trust that has been placed in me. I promise to work diligently on your behalf starting in January and I look forward to continuing my work on the Chicopee School Committee.

I want to give a special thanks to my colleagues, Grace Schofield for School Committee from ward 5, Bill Courchesne in ward 7, Shane D. Brooks in Ward 2, Ron Benard in ward 9, and my Uncle and ward 8 colleague Doug Girouard for holding signs for me for all or part of the day.

I also want to thank my Aunt and Uncle MarkFarrell CarrieGirouard Farrell for holding signs for me and for supporting me along this journey, and for my mom Debbie Girouard Wagner and dad Joseph Wagner for being my rocks and my supports throughout my time in public life. Their support and knowledge and advice has been invaluable throughout this journey and for all twenty years I have been on this earth. That same sentiment goes to my entire family, without whom I may never have taken this journey.

To the residents, thank you again! I can’t wait to get started!

Tim Wagner for Chicopee City Council 08/03/2023

Today, I am announcing my candidacy for one of the four At-Large seats on the Chicopee City Council. When I started on this journey of public service two years ago, when I took out papers for the School Committee, I never planned nor imagined that I would ever be running for the Council. Life has a way of changing things, of sorting things out. I asked myself who I wanted to be as a public servant. I saw a need for young, passionate, and experienced leadership in the city where I have been raised and educated for the past twenty years.

As a former student representative on the School Committee, member of the Historical and Charter Review Commissions, and former intern to then State Rep. Jake Oliveira, and now as the Ward 1 School Committeeman, I have seen firsthand how government can and should work for the people. These experiences have given me a broad range of areas of concern to residents, such as municipal budgeting and finance, union contracts, and even planning and development.

With this in mind, I have pulled papers and have been certified for the ballot for this November's municipal election. If the voters would have me, I intend to be a representative who ensures the voices of all people are heard and that everyone has equal access and insight into how Chicopee runs. I intend to be a representative who works collaboratively with all of my colleagues in city government to improve the lives of the taxpayers through investments in local infrastructure, education, and continued delivery of superb public services. I intend to be a representative the voters feel they can trust to act in their best interest.

I will work hard for Chicopee and always make myself available for you, and together, we will make Chicopee a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Welcome back!

11/02/2021

Thank you Ward 1 Chicopee! Thank you to all the residents who came out to support me. Thank you to everyone who came out to talk to me at the polls. Thank you to everyone who held signs for me and hosted signs at your house! Tonight, we received 78% of the vote, including write-in and blank votes. That wasn't possible without every single person who came out to vote for me, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Over the last few months, I've had the pleasure of speaking to so many residents about why I'm running and listening to their concerns about the schools, and I will continue to bring this level of passion and attention with me into my first term on the School Committee!

Once again, thank you Ward 1!

Treasurer Goldberg testifies in support of financial literacy programs in public schools 09/14/2021

We need financial literacy in schools! Glad to see our state treasurer, Deb Goldberg, testifying before the Joint Committee on Education in support of this.

As it stands, Massachusetts is one of only 12 states that does not require this sort of education. If we want to support our students, we have to teach them how to manage their money.
