I wanted to share a little more about myself. I started my Etsy shop due to chronic illness and disability making it difficult to have consistent employment that works with my ever changing health. As part of my chronic illness and disability, I am an ambulatory wheelchair user and have an amazing service dog named, Finn. Finn uses his sense of smell and hearing to alert me of oncoming fatigue, high or low heart rate, high or low blood pressure, pre-syncopal episodes, and uses his body to provide pressure on my body that soothes my sympathetic nervous system to help with pain and tremors. My wheelchair allows me to have less bad pain and fatigue days by giving my body the rest it needs while simultaneously getting me out and about. The freedom that Finn and my wheelchair has brought me is life changing. A few of my items for sale on my Etsy shop relate to my various illnesses and disabilities. When you buy them, you can bring awareness to people like me. The more awareness there is, the better people can be helped.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is a connective tissue disorder that effects the entire body. It is characterized by stretchy and easily injured skin, slow wound healing, hyper-mobile and unstable joints that dislocate, weak connective tissues such as muscles, fascia, ligaments, & tendons, cardiac and blood vessel weakness, increased risk of aneurysms, gastrointestinal disfunction, & various neurological disorders. There are 13 subtypes of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I have this rare condition and hope to raise awareness by creating this Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Awareness necklace. The mascot for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is the zebra. The zebra was chosen to help combat mascot the phrase used in medicine, "when you hear hoof beats think horses, not zebras". Physicians equate common diseases with horses and rare ones with zebras. Those of us with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome are the medical zebras and often have delayed diagnosis and suffer medical gaslighting due to this phrase. The zebra was also chosen because everyone with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome has the same rare disease but our symptoms vary between individuals and each person experiences it in a unique way that is as unique as stripes are to a zebra. Hi everyone!! I am chronically ill and disabled. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome among other conditions. This impacts my ability to work in a traditional workplace environment as it does many other chronically ill and disabled people. I started this business to help make a living and accommodate the additional costs that chronic illnesses/disability brings.
