Last week I started to have some tech issues. One of my displays stopped working with my work setup but was still working with my personal computer. I fiddled with things a bit and finally bought another dongle thing that would plug into the C port on my work laptop and fix the 2nd display issue. Problem solved.
Then, yesterday I went to sign on and my work laptop refused to boot up and displayed this "WARNING, BATTERY CRITICALLY LOW”.
Crap! I thought. The AC adapter must have fried or something. I knew it was plugged in because I could see the end of the cord plugged into the outlet.
I ran around town looking for an AC adapter for my crappy Dell Laptop that was sold to the government by the lowest bidder. I found one and purchased it.
When I crawled under the desk to change out the AC adapter I realized that the display port/power/USB device that was supposed to be powering my laptop was unplugged in the middle where the AC cord connected to the voltage step down regulator that plugged into the laptop.
The weird thing is plugging the power cord back in also fixed my display issues.
The Brothers Sun is a funny, intense, and very Asian drama starring Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chen, and Sam Sung Li.
It was created by Brad Falchuk, Amy Wang, and Byron Wu.
Charles, the older brother, has trained to be a TRIAD assassin since he was 14. Bruce the younger brother lives in LA with his mother (Michelle Yeoh) and wants to be an improv performer.
Charles is compelled to go to LA to protect his mother and younger brother.
If you are used to seeing Michelle do amazing and fantastic martial arts scenes you are in for a surprise.
In some ways the story is almost predictable but it does have some decent twists.
One of themes of the show is about the pressure from family to do what they want you to do vs choosing what you want to do. And not everyone winds up doing what you think they will. But, it is their choice.
The show also gives you an insight into how Chinese culture works.
So far there are only eight episodes. It did have a tiny easter egg after the credits that make you think there might be a second season. Or maybe not.
Right now you can find it on Netflix. I thought it was worth watching.

Have you ever wondered why the world works the way it does.
Today I shopped online for two relatively common tech accessories I needed to connect a second monitor to my personal and work computers.
I only had two choices for a local store that should, in theory, carry them.
And neither of the two had them in stock at the store so I could just drive and pick them up.
So, I went to the big store in the cloud, yes I am talking about Amazon, and ordered them for delivery tomorrow. Both items combined cost less than $25. I am not sure what Amazon pays for shipping. I do pay the annual fee for “FREE” shipping and all the other extras that come with an Amazon membership.
The other stores had the option for shipping but none of them could match the speed and efficiency of Amazon.
I don’t know how much money Jeff Bezos makes off me each year but I know that his competitors need to understand how he is beating them and why.
I bought my wife a carpet cleaner for Christmas.
I am still trying to figure out why she is calling the funeral home. 🤔
On this same day last year we had 56 inches of snow. Today the forecast is for 56 degrees Fahrenheit.
It’s going to be a very merry Christmas...If only Facebook would let me post the link to the new Dr. Who Christmas Special.
Apparently, it is now against their “community standards” to share the trailer from BBC that is on YouTube.
Frankly, I am not sure FB really has any community standards besides egging us all on to hate each other.

It was like playing that game where someone calls out cold, cold, warm, warm, warmer, Yay! 🤬
When I was a kid I remember my mom buying chocolate covered cherries at Christmas. It was the only time of the year we had them. I know you can get them the rest of the year these days but for some reason I never buy them any other time but Christmas. It’s family tradition.
IIRC the brand has usually always been Queen Anne. There are other brands and I have been forced to buy those in years when I could not find the Queen Anne.
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Chocolate covered cherries, Yes or No?
I love technology but I hate paying $1300 every year or two just because they added a couple more pixels to the camera.
My slightly older iPhone started draining the battery really fast. I checked the battery health and realized that it was time to replace the battery.
Naturally, this was not going to go smoothly because “they” want you to upgrade not repair and retain old products. You don’t become a $3,000 billion dollar company by encouraging your customers to keep products for 5 or more years.
Apple has a feature called “Find My Phone” that has to be turned off before the phone can be worked on. The technician hands me the phone and says “you have to turn off find my phone”.
I pull the password keeper and enter the password. Nope.
I pull up the Apple ID and enter the password. Nope
I pull up the Apple Change My Password function. Nope.
Now my phone is locked and I can’t do anything for an hour.
I had to return home and wait for the time out to expire and look up the passwords on my password keeper on my desktop.
I turned off “Find My Phone” before I left the house.
In about an hour I had once again dodged paying $1300 for an Apple iPhone for another couple of years.
Extra credit if you guess which version I am carrying. 😂
Just in case you wondered, yes we do need a longer mantle.
There has been some decorating going on. It’s starting to feel a bit festive.
Ha! Take that Wordle! The bot goes down in flames.

Happy Armistice Day. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 the armistice between the Allies of WWI and Germany went into effect.
On November 11th, 1919 President Wilson gave a memorial speech honoring Armistice Day.
In 1938 Congress passed an act making November 11th a legal holiday; "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day’”.
In the U.S. it was more or less celebrated as a day to honor the Veteran’s of WWI. Other nations celebrated Armistice Day or Remembrance Day around this same date.
In 1945 a WWII veteran, Raymond Weeks led a delegation to General Dwight Eisenhower and promoted the idea of celebrating all veteran’s on Armistice day and renaming it “Veteran’s Day”.
The idea was popular and in 1954 President Eisenhower signed the bill passed by congress into law changing the name of Armistice Day to Veteran’s Day. A day to honor all veteran’s who served in the U.S. military.
And thus, I wish you a happy Armistice Day... I mean a happy Veteran’s Day.

Chapter One: Unleash Your Inner Entrepreneur, Chapter 1: Unleash Your Inner Entrepreneur Discover the mindset and qualities of a successful entrepreneur and how to cultivate them within yourself.
Entrepreneurs put their life savings into their own business, are ridiculed by family, bullied by colleagues, and told they should have stayed “in the comfort zone”. After overcoming adversity and what appear to be impossible odds, they become successful and are living fulfilled lives.
Would you believe me if I told you this was the plot to the movie “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” which was released in April of 2023?
Warning! Spoilers Ahead!
In the opening scene of the movie a giant flying fortress shaped like Bowser’s head lands in the Ice Kingdom. The Penguin army engages in a very futile battle with Bowser and his Koopa army. Bowser takes the Super Star the Penguins have been hiding in their fortress. Bowser is a giant flame breathing turtle who is the king of all the Koopas.
In the second scene of the movie, we are treated to a commercial advertising Super Mario Brothers Plumbing in Brooklyn NY. The advertisement exhorts people to trust their plumbing needs to Mario and Luigi the Super Mario Bros and promises they won’t have to spend a lot of money to fix their plumping problems.
Their ex-employer, Spike, openly laughs at them and promises them they will fail. Upon arriving home to dinner with their extended family Luigi and Mario are met with derision and disbelief that they gave up a nice steady job with Spike to try the risky endeavor of starting their own business. Mario’s father tells him he should have kept working for Spike.
While moping in his room Mario sees a news broadcast about a huge water main leak. The news anchor asks, “Will no one save Brooklyn”?
Mario and Luigi try to fix the water main leak and are sucked into a warp pipe. By now you may realize the movie is based on the Mario video game franchise. Mario lands in the Mushroom King and Luigi lands in the Dark Lands. What follows is a series of adventures or adversity which lead to Mario, Luigi, and some of the characters they have met along the way defeating the arch villain Bowser. In the process they save Brooklyn and the Mushroom Kingdom.
The movie ends with Mario and Luigi waking up to an alarm and heading out into the Mushroom Kingdom to a day of plumping. Presumably working on all the different warp pipes the kingdom is full of.
The movie was a spectacular success. I believe that one of the main reasons the movie was a spectacular success was the very realistic way the movie addressed the topic of what happens when people chase their dreams.
Mario and Luigi are dreamers who have decided to make their dream a reality. Instead of supporting their dream the people who know them the best try to convince them to give up their dream.
Of course, like many who try to make their dreams come true they ran into roadblocks and situations that prevented them from getting started and making their dream come true immediately.
But they kept going, overcame challenges, defeated enemies, and made friends along the way. In the end they achieved their dream of working for themselves.
This is a story that most people can relate to. While the movie appeals to a wide age range it really is aimed at all the adults who grew up with the Mario video game franchise. Which is why it has a pretty adult plot considering it is an animated movie based on a video game.
Fortunately, while you may face a lack of support when you pursue your dreams you won’t have to face a giant fire breathing turtle. Even if it feels like that some days.
