Towing Tip: It's always good to keep your hitch in top shape with the proper maintenance. This not only ensures a smooth trip but also keeps the hitch in good condition. For instance, if you're rolling with a Companion or Patriot Fifth Wheel Hitch from B&W Trailer Hitches, here are some maintenance tips they recommend:

▪️ Scrub off that old grease and give it a fresh regrease about once a month or as needed. Remove as much dirty grease and debris as you can. Then hit these key spots with the new grease:

1. Spread a thin layer of multi-purpose grease on the inside surface of the jaws where they grab onto the kingpin. You might also wanna throw some grease on the kingpin of your trailer for good measure.

2. Whenever necessary, grease the polyurethane bushings where the coupler rests on the arms with some high-grade lithium grease.

3. Lubricate the top surface of the coupler with automotive type chassis grease OR use a l**e plate to provide a lubricated surface.

4. Grease up the saddle through the grease zerk about every 6 months with some multi-purpose grease. This ensures the coupler can pivot freely.

In addition to making sure the hitch stays properly greased, you'll want to give the whole hitch a once-over every time you tow:

1. Check that all bolted connections are torqued up properly (Review the install instructions for your hitch and keep them on hand, you can usually find these available online.)

2. Make sure all pinned connections are snug and secure.

3. Check to be sure there is no visual damage to the hitch before towing.

These steps are pretty universal, no matter which fifith wheel hitch you own. But, it's always wise to flip through your hitch owner's manual and install documents for any extra recommendations or things to keep in mind.
