It's time for another myth vs facts! 💡✨

1. You Need 20% Down To Purchase A Home - False. Depending on your loan type you may be able to put down a lower down payment.

2. Prequalification and Preapproval Are The Same - False. Prequalifying offers a rough estimate of how much you can afford based off basic financial information given. Preapproval is when you actually apply for a home loan and go through the entire application process to determine exactly how much of a home loan you can afford.

3. Your Down Payment Covers Your Closing Costs - False. These are separate costs you will need to plan accordingly for. Your down payment is a percentage of the purchase price and determined by the type of mortgage you chose. The closing costs are processing fees that you pay to your lender in exchange for creating and finalizing your loan.

4. You Must Have Perfect Credit To Qualify For A Mortgage - False. While credit plays a big role in securing a home loan, it does not need to be perfect. With some mortgage types you can have as low as a 580 credit score.

5. Applying For A Mortgage Will Hurt Your Credit - Kind of. Whenever you apply for a new loan or line of credit your credit score will take a small hit. However, the temporary decrease will usually only last a short amount of time.
