DANCECleveland aspires to be a national model for how a presenting organization serves its community, leveraging the world’s best modern and contemporary dance to inspire and educate audiences, local dancers, and community members. We bring renowned modern and contemporary dance companies from around the world to perform on the stages of northeast Ohio through our annual dance series.
DANCECleveland has been bringing the world 🌎 of modern and contemporary dance to Northeast Ohio since 1956 and we can’t wait to share another amazing season with you starting with the incredible ODC this Saturday at Playhouse Square then continues with a line up you won’t want to miss! With dance icons like Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Twyla Tharp Dance as well as choreographic voices challenging what contemporary dance is today like Hélène Simoneau Danse , Lloyd Knight and Raphael Xavier, the series promises to bring joy, wonder, thoughtful moments and movement that inspires! Community Dance Day 2024 is right around the corner on July 27th at Playhouse Square! This free event includes over a dozen different classes to try in all different styles and is open for all ages and abilities. Classes include ballet with Cleveland Ballet dancer Lauren Stenroos, Jazz with Kelsey Wilkins, Director of the Cavs Dance Team, Hip Hop with Cho from 10KMovement, Injury Prevention & Wellness with Anna Cerveny of Cleveland Dance Project, Stepping with Ron'Dale J Simpson of Blakk Jakk Dance Collective LLC, African Drum and Dance with Djapo Cultural Arts Institute, contemporary with ODC and so much more! Register online or in person. Then stay for the Free Northeast Ohio Student Showcase at 3 pm - 4 pm to see some of the talented youth dancers from our area in the Allen Theatre.

* We aim to support the Library while preserving the Coventry P.E.A.C.E Building.
* Time is pressing — we are down to WEEKS not months.
* The looming closure and/or demolition of the Coventry P.E.A.C.E. Building would be devastating for our community.
* Contrary to the Library’s claims, the Coventry P.E.A.C.E. Project has consistently demonstrated financial sustainability and we have a proven track record of creating and maintaining affordable, accessible spaces.
* Our Arts, Culture & Education Center is financial sustainable & we have a plan on addressing capital expenses.
* We have shown ourselves to be competent & responsible.
* We have support from major funding organizations—IF we have long-term leases.
* We are an important asset to our local economy.
* We are ready and able to resume the Coventry P.E.A.C.E. Campus project.
* Cleveland Heights is known for its creativity and forward-thinking spirit, focusing on the intangibles that strengthen community vitality.

Save the Date for Community Dance Day 2024! A full day of free classes and events for the whole family to enjoy at Playhouse Square across the whole district!
Starting at 10 am, take part in more than 12 free classes for all ages and abilities in dance styles including Modern, Ballet, African Drum & Dance, Hip Hop and more. Community Dance Day is a wonderful time to try out the art form of dance and its many styles and celebrate movement together.
Then, at 3 pm, come see a wonderful free dance performance featuring some of Northeast Ohio's best local youth dancers in Playhouse Square's Allen Theatre! This showcase provides local dance students with a professional performance experience in an iconic Playhouse Square theatre. The showcase will display a wide range of dance styles and will feature the highest caliber of student performers and choreographers from across Northeast Ohio. Tickets will be general admission and free but reservation in advanced is recommended as this event is expected to sell out.

We have heard from many dance schools that this time of year is very hectic, so once again we are giving you just a few more days to get your applications in to be part of the Northeast Ohio Student Showcase! Applications are now due June 10th. This is your final chance to apply to have your dance school or student group featured on stage at Playhouse Square on July 27th as part of Community Dance Day!

With modern dance pioneers alongside new choreographic voices, the season includes both Northeast Ohio audience favorites and fresh new companies making their Ohio debuts that promise to expand your perceptions of what contemporary dance can be.
The season begins with Community Dance Day 2024 and the return of ODC at Playhouse Square on July 27th! We hope you will join us for free movement classes for all ages and abilities and a variety of styles. Then the Mainstage season continues at Playhouse Square in a variety of theatres this year including Hélène Simoneau Danse in the Mimi Ohio Theatre, and the iconic Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater & Twyla Tharp Dance in the KeyBank State Theatre! For those looking to “see it all” select the Connoisseur series to experience a smaller more intimate theatre experience Lloyd Knight's The Drama in the Westfield Insurance Studio Theatre in Ideastream, and Raphael Xavier’s Skiff at Cuyahoga Community College.

This is your chance to perform at Playhouse Square on July 27th with other area dance schools, studios and youth groups. All dance styles are encouraged to apply! Applying is free and tickets to the showcase are also free for parents, friends and family to attend.
