"And the brain has strength, stamina, and endurance like any other part of the body, like a muscle for example. The brain is also an electrical system. So, any electrical system has to have a good capacitor or resistor. A computer for example needs to have a good surge protector. The computer doesn't have a good surge protector and gets a surge of electricity, it's gonna crash. Well, the brain is no different. So when the brain is not maturing correctly, and these systems are not developing correctly, just the word "No." can cause the brain to crash." Check out this conversation with Dr. Mark Goldenberg, Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist, and brain development expert, as he discusses the role of brain development in a child's ability to build executive functioning skills. 🧠 Help your child's brain block out visual distractions and stay on track during homework time. “So for example, our math worksheets often will look, you know, like this, so there's lots going on here. I have lots of different types of questions with lots of directions of how to do them. And so some of our kids will really struggle to stay focused just on the one part and their eyes will be drawn to other parts. Or like Rebecca said, they will become overwhelmed and they'll go into that anxiety fight or flight. I'm shutting down. So what I recommend is using Post-it notes. So this is that same worksheet, this one I have taken and I've blocked out everything except for the one problem that we are gonna focus on. And then what we do is we just keep moving the Post-it notes as we complete it. And when we're done, it can be extremely satisfying for a child to say, okay, let's remove all of the Post-it notes. And before them, they will have a worksheet that is completely done.” Watch the full conversation with Dr. Rebecca Jackson, Chief Programs Officer for Brain Balance, and tenured elementary and middle school educator, Lynn Brittnacher, by heading to brainbalancecenters.com/webinars.
