BOLD CHRISTIAN PAINTINGS BOLD CHRISTIAN PAINTINGS! These are unique pieces painted with a contrast layer technique developed by the artist himself. Doucette.
Designed and created to show the power, love, and wisdom of THE ALMIGHTY GOD, each painting is a witness of the painter's Christian faith. These collections form the ministry of Steven L. A seasoned retail manager and proud member of The Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2005, Steven L. Doucette will tell you that living and maturing as a Christian is the most important part of his life. The imagery here is straightforward, but many people will have varying interpretations. What does this painting say to you?
This one is getting close!
Here’s the beginning of the color corrections. It’ll look a bit weird before it looks good.
The smiling face of Jesus! I have some major color correction to fix and some small details left to paint on this current WIP.
This is my depiction of an ox. His head is bowed as he uses his strength to work for his master.
Here it is shaded in. I still have a lot to do to get the look I want, but the imagery is clearer now than it will be complete.
This isn’t my normal Easter painting, but it is something I’ve wanted to paint after a Brian Hallam sermon a few weeks ago at New Heights Church. I do hope to have it finished before Easter.
Thank you to everyone who liked, reacted, and/or commented on the progress of my current work. Follow the link to read the "Helm" full painting description
Helm What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a helmet? Maybe a piece of padded plastic worn during exercise or athletic activity? Perhaps something vital that keeps the wearer safe when worn in a dangerous situation. For soldiers or warriors of the past, helmets were worn so tha...

The book of Judges is one of the most violent books of the Bible. These ancient leaders of Israel stood between God’s people and the raiders and plunderers of rival nations. Of all the Judges, Samson was the strongest, and he used raw strength and brute force against the Philistines in bloody and violent fashion. Alone, he slaughtered 1,000 Philistine soldiers with only the jawbone of a donkey he found freshly rotting on the ground.
The imagery of this painting depicts Samson actively swinging the jawbone during the brawl. In this moment in time, he grips the jawbone in his right hand and winds up to take another powerful swing in a backhand movement. Samson’s long hair is matted with the blood of fallen men, his face covered in the bloody carnage that he’s already unleashed. See his face? No? it’s covered in blood, but also hidden behind the jawbone from this angle in this pose in this moment in time.
The jawbone aligns with Samson’s own jaw in the imagery. It’s something that I had hoped would only be evident after thorough viewing of this piece. It not Samson only swinging a jawbone, but it’s as if he, Samson himself, is the jawbone. He is the tool put to use. Although it was Samson who used a crude, blunt instrument to slay the soldiers in front of him, God himself used his own crude, blunt tool to defeat enemies of Israel in the same fight.
I’ve painted a depiction of Samson and the jawbone before, but not during the fight. The past painting could be viewed a Samson right before the fight, or after it, but not during. For this current piece I was challenged to depict this story and also use blue as the primary color. The finished original painting would hang in a house with a baby as well, so a bloody depiction could traumatize. After struggling with the imagery that depicted this brawl, was not overly bloody or violent, and … blue, I realized that the blue tones were the solution and not the challenge. Instead of blood being the highly noticeable red, the blue tones mask the blood on Samson’s body, face, and hair. The lighting is very direct on Samson as well with darkness all around him. Parts of his body as shrouded in the darkness and blend in to the background until only complete darkness is painted instead of the death all around.
Over Jesus Christ is referred to as the Lion of Judah in multiple places in the Bible, so many artists have depicted Jesus along with a lion or some kind of lion imagery. The vast majority of these artworks depict the lion at eye level, but I wanted to show another perspective for this piece.Other lions....

Lead A purely conceptual piece, this painting is full of symbolism. At a glance, the imagery shows a woman with a sword in her hand walking through a field with arrows stuck in the ground around her – in the distance is a large fire. I’ll break down a few bits of the symbolism intended here.Think of ...

Raise Look up at a tree while walking by and you’ll notice imagery between the branches. The Bible uses figs to represent Israel and/or Christians. You know the type of tree by its fruit. Jesus’ face revealed in the canopy of the tree represents a tree growing to raise Christ up and actually displayin...
Ok, so this one isn’t short at all. Enjoy watching this at regular speed!
Contrast before color
Tonight I tested various consistencies of puréed fig mixed with acrylic paint on a test canvas. The translucent layer will show some important imagery in the actual painting, but I’m running tests to make sure the imagery already established isn’t hidden.
This is a real fig branch that is being used for part of the current painting in progress. AND it’s not the only part of an actual fig tree being utilized to show imagery in unique ways!
“Harvest” in the office of a wonderful lady I met just over a week ago. She didn’t waste any time putting it up! I love how it stands out so much in this setting!
