Here are some tips for starting the process as a first time home buyer:

1. Start Saving Early - Down payments can range between 3% and 20% depending on the loan type. You'll also want to have 2%-5% saved for closing costs associated with finalizing the loan and some saved for moving expenses.

2. Check your credit - There are several companies that offer credit reports along with credit monitoring such as IdentityIQ and SmartCredit where you can pull your report to check it for errors. It's pretty common to have errors on your credit report and cleaning these errors up can have a positive impact on your report and score. We have an excellent in house credit guru that can help with the errors and also recommend things you can do to strengthen your score.

3. Explore Mortgage Options - There are many loan options including conventional, FHA, USDA, and VA each having different terms. A great place to start would be speaking with a licensed loan officer that can help guide you through options that would best suit your situation.
