Mizzou Orthopaedic Residency
Official resident-run page representing the University of Missouri School of Medicine Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program.
Final update on our PGY4 Fellowship matches! Last week Dr. Stephanie Choo joined her resident class with matching into their top choices! We are very thankful to have these rising seniors! Congratulations everyone!
Great work by PGY1 Dr. Bangura and PGY4 Dr. Choo for presenting at the MSOA annual meeting. Way to represent the team!
Giving the warmest welcome to our incoming fellows! We look forward to having you! Welcome to the Mizzou!
We are greatly proud of our PGY4s matching into their top choices! Although we are very excited for the next chapter of their career, we will deeply miss them. This has to be the toughest part of residency, parting ways after building such a strong team and connection. We are thankful to have you for 1 more year!
This year, PGY5 Dr. Chirag Sheth joined our Associate Program Director Dr. Sumit Gupta on our annual medical mission trip to Nagpur, India. Together they were able to provide surgical care to the underserved pediatric population in India! Great thanks to Parai International Group and rest of staff for making this possible.
We are extremely excited for our incoming intern orthopaedic residents. A class full of rockstars! Congratulations to you all! We cannot wait to have you all here together. Celebrate, you deserve it!
PGY2 resident, Dr. Hogan and PGY1 resident, Dr. Phillips joined our attendings in Phoenix as they co-chair (Dr. Nuelle) and lecture (Dr. Stannard) the AO Sports North America Course!
The 78th ASSH annual meeting was a great one as our PGY3 resident, Dr. Vivace presented Adjunctive Dorsal Spanning Plate Fixation in the Stabilization of Perilunate Dislocations, and our PGY4 resident, Dr. Choo was the recipient of the Mary S. Stern scholarship!
Who gets to hold the belt next? Just some fun competition between the residents and a great way for us to support each other's research endeavors! The resident research enrollment champion award!
Book club is invaluable! Our Hansjörg Wyss Distinguished Chair, Dr. Stannard annually selects a personal growth and team building book for us to read and discuss as a group. This year’s book is called “The Infinite Mindset!” What’s your Just Cause?
Excited to have leaders who lead beyond what we have here! Congratulations to Dr. Nuelle for being elected as a fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA). Congratulations to Dr. London for being selected as one of the 2023 American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) Young Leaders.
Annual Sports Physical Days is a huge community outreach event, led by our attending Dr. Ma. Every year, faculty and residents provide sports physicals to ensure that our mid-missouri middle and high school athletes are ready for the season. This year we served over 200 athletes!
The gold medalist of the AO Trauma Research Olympiad 2023 goes to one of our fearless leaders, Dr. Schweser. Congratulations on your success and thank you for all that you do for us!
Congratulations to our graduating chief residents. Drs. St Clair, Manning, Spence, Ewing and Worley will be missed. They were described by Dr. Stannard as the ideal team players. What an amazing class—we can’t wait to see what your future holds.
Congratulations to our PGY4s who matched yesterday. We’re proud and excited for your accomplishments!
Congratulations to the newest members of our resident family!
Mizzou takes over Miami. Faculty, fellows, former residents and current residents all got together at the AO advanced knee injury and deformity course.
The Mizzou Tigers won last night against the Arkansas Razorbacks! Devin St. Clair (PGY5) and John Worley (PGY5) accepted the game ball on the court during the big win.
*Arkansas is Devin’s alma mater*

Congratulations to our chief residents who graduated! Drs. Ellis, Rowan, Moon and Paschuck will be missed, but we know they’re well prepared to be amazing orthopedic surgeons. Thank you for your hard work, passion, and friendship. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you all.
Started graduation week with another great golf outing. The PGY-5 team got the big win and brought home the hardware. Thanks to all the attendings and our program coordinators for putting the event together.
Congratulations to our PGY-4 residents who matched into fellowship today! John at UAB for spine, Devin at Vanderbilt for spine, Brad at Minnesota for spine, Blaine at Medical College of Georgia and Michael (not shown) at the Andrew’s Gulf Breeze fellowship!
Mizzou faculty, residents and medical students had a great time at the annual meeting. There’s nothing better than getting together with orthopedists from across the world and sharing and gaining knowledge.
With #2021 coming to an end, we have time to reflect on another great year here at Mizzou. We said goodbye to six awesome chief residents and gained five stellar interns, learned a ton, and had a great time doing it all. We look forward to what #2022 has to bring!
Ortho girls night out! Attendings, fellows, residents, research fellow and med students all included! We would love to see this group grow, too 😊.
Throwing it back a few weeks to Chirag Sheth (PGY3) performing a Stryker InSpace biodegradable subacromial spacer procedure on a cadaver with Dr. Kim watching closely. We’re lucky to be able to get residents hands on experience with new techniques here at Mizzou.
Big thanks to Dr. Bellabarba for making the trip from Seattle to spend time with us as a visiting professor! We enjoyed hearing about the management of complex sacral fractures and discussing cases with you. Our mentors and 4 PGY4s share your passion for spine. Thanks to for allowing us to have him away from Seattle for a few days.
Mizzou was well represented at in Boston, Massachusetts this week, too! All four of the PGY4s applying for spine fellowships this year were able to attend.
to a couple weeks ago learning how to fix tibial plateau fractures with Dr. Kfuri.
