We want to introduce Abby our new Admin/CSR for the shop. She has been fantastic and fits in great! When you call or text the shop to set an appt you will likely be talking to her. She’s helping out with many things around the shop and keeping things running smoothly on a lot of behind the scenes things I dreaded doing and she’s amazing at.

If you talk to her also tell her congratulations because she is getting married very soon 😀

Diagnostic testing.

Wow what a weird unknown and misunderstood thing in the automotive industry. From the client as well as some from the industry itself.

So here is the down and dirty on diagnostic testing. Plain and simple.

1. Diagnostic testing and reading a code with a scan tool are not the same thing.

2. No autozone, advance auto, oreilly’s do not do diagnostic testing for free. It’s a code scan. There is a difference. If we had some magical tool to just hook up and tell us what was wrong we wouldn’t be in business long.

3. Yes there are actual tests we have to do to confirm what is wrong with your vehicle. We test don’t guess. Getting a professional diagnosis is the cheapest way to fix your vehicles correctly and accurately.

4. A Professional shop will guarantee their diagnosis. Which means if they misdiagnose it. You don’t pay for that repair. So if your shop/mechanic is not doing that then you need to find a new one.

Something I’ve always found interesting is people rarely talk about the fact that they tried to install 5 parts to fix an issue. Or the “guy” they know or “mechanic” they know threw a bunch of parts at a car. But they run around talking about how it’s hard to find a an honest mechanic. But complain as soon as a professional shop mentions charging a diagnostic testing charge.

Again it’s cheaper to pay that than throw 5 parts at your vehicle it doesn’t need. You are literally throwing money down the drain that could be used for actual needed repairs or maintenance. Which I know isn’t a popular thing people want to spend money on. But we need our vehicles for many of the things we do day to day.

So remember then next time someone says oh just take it to auto zone they will scan it for free. Understand these parts stores are in the business to sell what?

As professional’s we are in the business to fix your vehicle right and fix it right the first time.

Today marks 4 years in business.

First and foremost I genuinely want to say Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way and continues to support us. I’m not kidding when I say we are beyond blessed to have the absolute BEST clients around.

As we have said from the beginning this is God’s business we just manage it. Does that make us perfect? No far from it but we are working to do our very best everyday.

I thought this would be a great post to add some things I’ve learned since starting the business that may help other aspiring owners as well. In no particular order.

1. Being a business owners will likely be the hardest or one of the hardest things you will do in your lifetime.

2. Not every client is your client. It’s not personal it’s business that’s ok. Just communicate it to them.

3. Making clear boundaries for yourself and the business as well as for the clients. There are times and seasons where yes you will need to grind and work long hours. But you need your physical and mental health. You cannot help people if you are sick or dead. Or mentallly not healthy.

4. You cannot be the cheapest and offer the best service. This statement holds true mostly. You can have it cheap fast or good. Pick two. Remember there is always someone willing to do it cheaper. As the owner it can be extremely tough when someone takes their business elsewhere. It’s not personal it’s business. So don’t take it personal. I could go into much more detail on this but I want to keep this somewhat short.

5. Profit is not a dirty word.

6. Don’t rush things. I just recently made a post how we constantly think we should be further ahead. Focus on current season and moment. Absolutely set goals and push to better yourself but don’t lose sight of where you are now and how to make it the best it can be.

Again thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. From the Enright Automotive family we truly are blessed beyond words.

Lets talk about estimates.

This is an area that get really muddy really fast and I personally believe it is one of the main areas that get's misunderstood and miscommunicated and causes a lot of issues in the industry as a whole because a lot of shop owners/advisors do not take the time to explain them to the clients.

First and foremost. NOT all estimates are created equal. Just because you call around to 5 different shops and get 5 different prices does not mean you are getting the same work.

What do I mean by that?

Well those 5 different prices you are getting 5 different levels of work and value. 2 out of the 5 shops are using aftermarket parts and coolant. Which are cheaper and do not last as long. As well as run the risk of failing and causing engine damage since they are timing components.

The other 2 shops are using oem parts but universal coolant and only have a 12 month 12k mile warranty.

One of those shops is using all OEM parts, OEM coolant and supplying a 3yr 36k mile nationwide warranty.

None of this includes the other things like customer service, length of completion time. IF there is an issue are they going to fight you on everything or fix an issue if they made a mistake so on and so forth.

All of these places are offering different prices, services and value.

What happens is most places get so many calls a day for people "shopping around" they don't take the time to explain this or the work they are doing and the value they provide. So then in the end you as the consumer lose out.

Because the facts remain the majority of people do not want to spend money on their vehicles. So in many cases they go with the cheapest option. Then after that part or parts fail after 12k miles when the warranty runs out they have to do the job twice and spend double vs just having a shop do it right the first time that is using the better quality parts and providing the better warranty for peace of mind.

In closing as the consumer I urge you to ask questions so you aren't the one who loses out in the end.

Us here at my shop. We do not even do estimates over the phone but that is a topic for another day.

Have a blessed day!

“There is always someone willing to do it cheaper”

This is a quote you will hear from me often or already have heard me say it dozens of times. Why do I say this so often and WHY does it even matter?

Well when it comes to certain jobs or industries. Especially in the automotive there are a lot of people who claim themselves to be “mechanics” now I use that term loosely because really here in Ohio and the majority of states there is no requirements, licenses or training to become a mechanic or even start your own shop.

You can open up a auto repair shop tomorrow if you have the money and create the llc.

So here is the “WHY it matters” because in the mass majority of cases where you find someone that does it cheaper. We have to ask ourselves. How are they doing it for cheaper? What corners are they cutting? What quality of parts are they using? What type of warranty are you getting if any? All of these questions come into play.

Also when comparing pricing or jobs in our world a lot of times it’s not apples to apples. One shop may be doing a timing chain job but buying aftermarket parts and not replacing all the recommended parts or known parts that fail while completing the timing chain job itself. Such as on a Honda 2.4 the crank seal, o ring on the timing cover, valve cover gasket, resealing the timing chain tensioner cover.

Why does that matter because all those items are prone to failure at some point so why pay double labor when you can do the job correctly the first time instead of skipping out just to get a cheaper price.

So again the statement holds true. There is always someone willing to do it cheaper. But what are you losing out on as the consumer?

01/01/2024

I recently uploaded a reel on Instagram that has a lot of comments and a lot of misconceptions. I wanted to clarify a lot of those misconceptions and do into detail about the difference between what shops do and what a parts store does when they read a code for a check engine light.

Let’s talk WARRANTIES

So the obvious must me stated from the start. A warranty is only as good as the persons word offering it right from the start. Obviously anyone can offer a warranty but when push comes to shove will they stand by their word?

Right? I mean how often do we see this with aftermarket car warranty’s from companies who try everything to get out of paying?

For me personally in my own life. I like warranties and the peace of mind that comes with it. I don’t want to waste brain space dealing with something if there is an issue. So anytime I get work done around my house I have 2 requirements for me personally. I want to trust them and I want a warranty they stand by.

Which is why I implemented the 3yr 36k mile nationwide warranty at our shop. It’s a no questions asked warranty in my mind. If a part fails or we make a mistake. It gets fixed no matter what in that time period. I want my clients to have peace of mind.

If our clients are on vacation or on a trip out of state or the area and they need a rental vehicle, a hotel or something a long those lines we take care of it. I don’t want a failed part we installed or a mistake we may have made to ruin a trip.

You will hear me say this often. “It’s not IF a business makes a mistake or not that makes them bad or good. But how they handle mistakes that is the difference maker.” Becusse let’s be honest with ourselves. None of us are perfect and will all make a mistake at some point.

What are your thoughts on warranties?

11/29/2023

The average car payment now is $717 a month. Not including insurance and of course still the maintenance it will need. Obviously repairs will be covered under warranty for 3yrs 36k miles but they still have maintenance needed in that time.

$717 a month is $8604 in a year. Not including those others additions in cost. Maintaining your current vehicle is almost always going to be less expensive than buying a new vehicle. The likelihood of you having to spend over $8k in a year on a vehicle is slim but doing that for 6-8yrs in a row will never happen.

Just some food for thought.

11/22/2023

I feel like I talk about this all the time but it happens all the time. Not all services are the same. Cheaper is not always better unfortunately.

I talk very passionately about this because I care. I am always about justice and people not being taken advantage of or being taken by ignorance. Sometimes it’s their own fault because they make the decision themselves even after informing them. This is not one of those cases but it does happen. In those cases we cannot take personally responsibility but I’ll be honest even for someone like myself who generally has less compassion it’s very hard because we truly want the best for people.

These brakes had to be re done as you can see on the left they never even cleaned the hubs off. They re used a very questionable caliper bracket bolt that after I cleaned all the rust off was close to 1/2 gone at the base with no threads left. Just mind blowing.

As always I’m far from perfect. I make mistakes but I also do the best I can do in the process and if mistakes are made I make them right and that can be proven from the clients in the past who have experienced a mistake of mine.

One thing I say constantly is it’s not if a business makes a mistake but when. The difference maker is how they handle and fix the mistake.

So remember a lot of times cheaper is actually more expensive. Whatever you are getting done whether it be automotive repair, landscaping, hvac work, accounting work, marketing find a business you can trust not the cheapest place around.
