Happy 1 year Anniversary Tree of Life Nursing 🎉

It was 1 year ago today that we launched this little project.

Since then, I have assisted 6 families coordinating hospice admissions based on specific criteria by insurance. I discuss patient referrals with primary care physicians, discuss hospice care options with patients and family members, and plan with both the patient and the facility to prepare for hospice care.

SENIOR HOUSING NEWS…..This article makes several good points in regards to senior housing and care. Although, if you are being paid to do a job then do it to the best of your ability, take advantage of educational classes, then clock out go home and be a “quiet quitter.” Seniors are paying top dollar for substandard care.

My nursing career has predominantly been in the geriatric field starting at age 19 along with being raised by grandparents. I worked hard before during and after the pandemic and elderly care has gone from mediocre to worse.

If your loved one is in a facility do the following:

1. Be present often
2. Engage with all staff
3. Have expectations or standards of care
4. Request monthly billing statements.
5. Set up monthly care conferences with your family members facility care team.

As a hospice nurse, I have seen so many wonder people loose their battles with cancer. Studies show that cancer is expected to surpass cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death in the United States. Not only is the number of people with cancer expected to increase, but also the number of cancer survivors.

I’ll be participating again this year in the Pelotonia by riding 57 miles. Starting downtown, passing through Granville and ending in New Albany🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏻‍♀️

Together we can make the difference. Help me reach my goal of $1500 let’s work together to help raise money for cancer research 🚴🏻‍♀️

Let’s talk about helping children through grief and loss👧🏻🧒🏽👧🧒🏾

❤️Explain the circumstances of the death to the child in terms he or she can understand.

💙Encourage children to talk and cry.

💚Listen Non-judgementally.

💛Children need constant reassurance that they will be cared for emotionally and physically with the loss of a parent or caregiver.

🧡Children may feel responsible for the death of a loved one. They need to be told repeatedly that the death is NOT their fault.

💜Use art work as a means for children to express how they are feeling about the death. Let them tell you about how they are feeling.

🤎Encourage children to write. Keeping a journal, writing poetry can help them track and monitor their feelings.
